Steam-powered internet machine!

Nothing delights me like the completely inappropriate application of old technology to new. This, then, is the Coolest Thing Ever.

Also, from the "Well Duh" department, People report mystical experiences in psilocybin study. Actually, I shouldn't mock. The important thing here is not that people reported mystical experiences, or that they reported being happier and kinder following a psychedelic experience (which should be obvious to anyone who's ever had a psychedelic experience), but that there was a study at all about psilocybin, and that it had positive results, and those reports were covered at all in the media. Go, that.

Hrm. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. Everyone, at some point in their life, should get to experience oceanic consciousness, through drugs, meditation, or what have you. Whether or not the sense of interconnectedness is an accurate representation of the universe, it's useful for us to believe in, I think.

I agree, altered states help us, at times interpret this plain of existence. They do often give us great inspirations of truths. As yuu said via trance all the way to via chemical. What ever works for you. Again the"All things in moderation". rule applies

On that note, I do have to admit that I had less of a connection to the world (in a 'I am part of all that is' sort of way) before my brief adventure into the use of THC. Although it really is a bad thing to make a habit of, I think most would benefit from from the experience.

Damned hard to justify killing something that is a part of you. Get the gun-toting wing-nuts to understand that, and we'll all sleep a little better tonight!

That *might* work...

..except that I can all too easily see some charismatic schmuck saying that he'd seen Allah, and had been ordered to cleanse the land of all the infidel dogs.

I have a vague idea that the anxiety and the mystical experience are related phenomenon; sort of Guardian at the Gate stuff?

I love that the Steam Powered Internet is running Mac!

There's often mention of entheogen studies in the UK - guess we're not so uptight about it. The best place for news on current research (as they organise and even fund a lot of it) is these guys:

We don't so much go in for it over here. Not much sense wasting your research time if you know you're not going to get published, seems to be the general feeling.

Er, MAPS is based in the US... and they get a lot of stuff published. It's just that the newspapers don't talk about it much.

Excellent. I take it back - my understanding was a misunderstanding. They've got links to stuff in Real Journals, even.
