So I've been out of work for almost a week now, which would explain the lack of posting. Let me unpack that. When I'm not working, I feel vaguely useless and full of whinge, and so, to avoid sounding too emo to those who aren't around me all the time and used to my inherent emoness, I don't talk to the internet. It seems kinder, that way.

But! As it happens, I made arrangements today to have a job. I start Monday. All is well in the world.

I was reading a book that [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn lent me today, called God's Debris. There is a bit in it which is largely unrelated to the main point of the book in which one of the characters tells the other that the secret to being a man and talking to women is that you have to know that women want you to sacrifice things for them, whereas men want to feel useful. I think that's bullshit. Last time I checked, I mostly wanted to be useful, and also, last time I checked, I had a vagina. I'm pretty sure that having a vagina is the sort of thing that qualifies one as "woman" in the minds of people who are prone to divide the human race in half according to gender. But there you go. I tend to think that most things that people say which include the phrases "men are/women are" or "men want/women want" are bullshit, though, just as a general rule.

Anyway. The point is: yay, job. I'm currently reframing the whole unemployment incident in my head as an elaborate way to ensure that I had enough money in my pocket come Saturday to buy Tool tickets.

Concert and meal tickets...

So, things are well in hand for working and making money it would seem. I'm very happy to hear this and will stop pouring energy into the Universe on your behalf! Hopefully this will be something that is 'Also Fun' in some regard so as to help keep you entertained while filling your pockets with money. Further disclosure on this subject is entirely up to you.

Now...about tickets. Yes, I am also aware that Tool tickets go on sale Saturday morning and that they are the only band on the ticket. $66 per seat + $8 mishandling = $74 per person not including parking at Municipal. That's a bit steep in my book...even for an awesome band like Tool. I perhaps paid more to see the Summer Sanitarium tour in St. Louis, but that was a number of great bands all at once. The presale for Rockfest tickets is already going on, but the line-up there is only so-so. A few good bands that I like will be there, but too many that I said 'Who?' about. Maybe I'm just getting old...

I thought about seeing Rockfest this eyar as the lineup looks pretty sharp to me (45% or so bands I know and like), but I'm not sure about a day in the sun with the "usual" Rock listeners...

You'ev been before, yes? Can you explain the two stage deal? Are they alternating setup on one with playing on the other, or are they actually simulplaying? How many songs, on average, does each band get to play?

The fun in the sun is a good time. This is where my white tiger pimp hat actually came from! [livejournal.com profile] erusumbros and I went two years ago and were very pleased with the event. Wear lots of sunblock. They alternate setup and sets so that there are very short breaks between (enough to grab food and walk over to the other stage) so it seems more like one long continuous concert. Bonus for this year: show up early and you can snag a space in the new parking structure at Union Station.

I was also vaguely horrified about the ticket prices (and thanks for outing that to the more budget-worried members of the house, btw. sheesh). And I can't imagine paying that for most shows. But Tool, Tool is the most favorite band ever in the history of bands. And I've never seen them.

Should I take that to mean that you won't be there?
