Saturday morning, our household was represented in our third or maybe seventh or fifty-second Blue River Cleanup, which, for those of you who aren't in the Kansas City area, means that we spent our morning picking up trash on the river banks along with several hundred other dirty hippies similarly-minded folks. We found a bike in the river, which [livejournal.com profile] triadruid had to pull out of a tangle of giant submerged tree roots with a large stick. It was the most exciting thing that happened during the entire cleanup, as far as we knew. Later, we were told that a crew further downriver from us found a dead body. Lucky them. All we got was a bike.

Later, we repaired to [livejournal.com profile] opaljax's housewarming party, where we watched some Eddie Izzard, ate some yummy food (including, notably, a taco dip made by [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants) and played some KURS. [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale learned a very important lesson, which I will now share with you: Drinking when you are already massively dehydrated is a very, very poor plan. I spent several lovely hours convinced that my skull was infested with pickaxe-wielding midgets, but some water and some sleep sent them packing eventually. Much fun was had by all, although I slept through some of it. The Shy Cat at [livejournal.com profile] opaljax's has apparently decided that I am its Favorite, as the entire time I was sleeping, it was wandering around my head, head-butting me a purring. We ended up home at about 6:00 a.m. with the time change, and, true to form, chose to do this thing on a weekend that [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were in the Sunday ritual.

So Sunday, there was a ritual at Gaia which did not go nearly as badly as I had envisioned that it might, given the lack of sleep. Then, later, there was MirrorMask, which was every bit as unintelligible as they say. The time following the film was partially taken up with a discussion of whether or heavy hallucinogen use was required to work for Henson's creature shop, or merely strongly encouraged. I think I liked the film. I'm not sure, though. It seemed a lot like Labyrinth, except with more fish, and less David Bowie. Now, I like fish as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure that the one makes up for the other.

So now here I am at work again. I'm going to try to come in every day this week. I'll let you know how it turns out :)

And now, a gratuitous cellist.

I <3 wildly inappropriate instrumentation and arrangements. I've been waking up to Apocalyptica for several weeks now, and it just doesn't get old.

I'm a longtime Apocalyptica fan. When I was working in a store where the employees had control of the stereo, Cult was our "break up any arguments, because we all dig this album" disc.

The Navy fresh-out-of-boot boys who came in to buy all our Werewolf supplies (oddly enough, Navy are the only ones I've ever seen who actually play Werewolf) would boggle at the "awesome instrumental metal" on the overhead, and then call bullshit on me when I told 'em it was undistorted cellos. Amazing, the things you can do with open fifths and extra rosin on the bow, eh?

(Then again, this was the same store where I'd open alone, put on a Rachmaninoff concerto, then the old mallwalker ladies would come in and compliment the radio station that the company 'forced poor young people to listen to,' and call bullshit on me when I told them this twenty-one year old put on his own CDs, but thank you very much.)
