In which it isn't a great day, really

This morning I woke up well, which is to say that I didn't go through my usual period of fifteen minutes hate before getting out of bed. Slept well, didn't need it. I got up, showered, dressed, contemplated which path on the tree of life corresponded to the color of my socks (that would be Path 27, the Tower), thought that was funny, and then headed off to work almost on time for once.
That was the last thing to go right all day (up until this point, anyway. The afternoon has yet to be revealed).
On the way in to work, I witnessed a traffic accident. It was sort of unavoidable, the witnessing, since it happened right in front of me. A woman in a white Ford Taurus accelerated into the back end of the truck in front of her. They pulled off. I should have stopped to give my number, but I didn't. This was my one chance to be on time to work this week, and I didn't want to blow it. Now I feel sort of bad about it.
Since then, I've offended someone I respect, lost about a day and a half's worth of data entry which I will now have to do again, and referred to someone as "Barquentine" in official documentation. Now, I have to replace the data entry, which will almost certainly require me to skip lunch, and I also may have to write a note to another bunch of people that I respect, telling them that what they're proposing that I should go do with them, frankly bores the piss out of me. Maybe that last bit could wait till tomorrow.
And also, there's this sort of basic fact that I've been trying to avoid for the past few days, which is that we live in a world where people kill other people about cartoons. This must be a Saturn retrograde thing, this thing where we take everything far, far, far too seriously. I don't know. Seriously, people, lighten up.
EDIT: On the other hand, Lego Difference Engine.
