Or, dispatches on the office and alternate realities.

You never really know someone until they give you a book recommendation. It is with that thought in mind that I returned a book called Dark Prince (which is exactly the harlequin romance with vampires that it sounds like) to my coworker. I got about 1/4th of the way through it when I realized that the pedestrian wish-fulfillment going down within the pages was making me physically ill. So I thought I'd take a moment to rejoice in the fact that there is nothing in the sort of "I don't want to, but I must, because you are the Strong Compelling Man, and my will is as nothing beside yours! Let's mate for life" story that is at all appealing to me, even as a thought-experiment. But here's the part where I'm all enlightened and stuff. I decided I didn't care for it, and I handed it back to her. "Thanks, but it's not for me," I said. Coastal-dwellers take note. Someone in the Midwest thought something was icky and didn't immediately try to remove all record of its existence.

If I'm snarky, it's because Cora and Clarice have been standing behind my cube for the last twenty minutes twittering over the copier. It is apparently not behaving as it should. There is an issue with the size of paper that I would probably resolve by pushing the "select" button and informing the machine of the size of paper I would actually like it to use, but the Ladies are unaware of this possibility. Cora suggests a swift kick. Clarice prefers a service call. "It does this all the time!," she cries. I suppose I could fix it, but the fact that this department is unaware that I have any skills with machinery is one of the things I like about the new job. Anyway, absent any overarching desire for world domination, the idea that Cora and Clarice should come to depend on me for anything is somewhat repugnant.

Regarding the Rabbit Hole Day, I'm not in. My reality is too close to fantasy anyway. And, I keep comign to the conclusion that this may well be the best of all possible worlds. Besides, you're all informed about what alternate-me (I'm calling hir 'featherynscale(n+1)' from here on out) is doing all the time anyway. She certainly would have written a rabbit-hole entry today (about featherynscale(n+2)? Could be.). It's probably about having sex with someone inappropriate. The reader can make that part up himself, if he likes. :)

There's more to tell today, but I am uncertain whether or not it's Intarweb-grade material. Maybe later.

You'd better go ahead and give them their thrones, then.

I'm really trying to get off this train before it gets to that station. I don't care for wandering about wondering whether or not I'm the villain. I mean, I don't mind being the villain if I have to, but this thing where I'm not sure if I'm the villain or not, it makes me jumpy.

Also, because this is making me a little bit batshit, what was the name of Prunesquallor's sister? I should know this, and yet, it hides from me in my brain.

Yay! Thank you, that was making me crazy.

At your service. (Though not in a destructive manner, as Dr. Prunesquallor feared.)

It's worth noting that "Steerpike" was the first handle I ever used, when I first logged onto CompuServe's CB Simulator chatrooms, back in 1984. Zounds, it's hard to believe I've been doing this for more than two decades!

Now that is an awesome icon.

And I am quite pleased to have gotten it in response to that particular comment. *grin*

Hee. I swiped it from a german-language comic strip about Cyrano de Bergerac. I use it for actual expressions of gallantry or courtliness, as opposed to this one, which is for ironic expressions of same (and, you know, work). :)

Rabbit hole day?

Somewhere out there last year, people decided that today was Lewis Carroll's birthday. Hence, down the rabbit hole day. Encouragement of the posting of things that did not happen in the waking world, alternate lives, fantastic lies, and so on and so forth. It's a good game, but I don't think it's a game for me.
