It occurred to me this morning as I was driving to work putting on makeup (I don't normally wear makeup, but when I do, I apply it while driving. Sorry.) that my perception of my own gender has now officially wandered far enough that it is somehow kinky for me to wear makeup. Not sure where that's going, or what it means, but hey. It makes me feel like I'm somehow better looking, so I think that's okay.

Fucking weird.

I generally think of getting out of the normative cultural headspace for your gender as a good thing. Expands the mind, puts hair on the chest (or the female equivalent), that sort of thing.

I'm not sure I've ever been all the way in that normative cultural headspace. I'm sort of crap at girl. I'm not much better at boy. But I think I'm pretty good at this thing in between.

I'd pay good money (or trade) to see you in make-up. Extra if I get to watch you apply it.

I have seen her in makeup. Icing on an already luscious cake

A cherished vision, even to one who does not see well ;-)

I have to laugh over the fascination with watching one apply makeup. [livejournal.com profile] zerself used to sit on the bed with me and watch in slack-jawed wonder as I put stuff on my face. She was especially interested in liquid eyeliner and the eyelash curler.

Why is it so amazing? Just an interest in watching someone else's version of an oft-repeated ritual? Perhaps there is something sexual to the experience for the observer? I know some men find watching the application of lipstick to be erotic.

I don't know. I don't think the act itself is all that interesting, but then I spent a lot of time in my formative years putting stage makeup on myself and other people, and that tends to be a pretty rough and utilitarian exercise.

I don't know that I have *ever* seen you in make up... that would be an adventure in and of itself...

Yes you have! I think... Surely.
...
Maybe?

Ummmm.... nothing comes to mind. Most of the times that you would have been I was drunk and don't really remember.
