For the purposes of keeping the story straight in my head, I've decided to start recording a synopsis of gaming sessions herein, that I might not forget which important plot points I've given the players and which I haven't, or what I spontaneously decided to call the town they're in, or other pertinent information that never makes it into my DM folder. And because, who knows, it might make a good story.

Session 1:
We meet Our Heroes.
Phae is a nun, a nun with god problems. She hails from a convent somewhere in the far north, and follows a god who reigns over both the art of war and the art of healing. At some point in her life at the convent, Phae began to suspect that the hierarchy of her organization and its rules had little to do with the wishes of the god himself, and more to do with the wishes of the high priests. This disaffection grew, and eventually Phae left the convent, taking with her what meager equipment she could carry, along with a spectuacularly crappy attitude towards organized religion and an overexuberant barbarian she now considers her life partner.
Goombah is a red-headed northern tribesman. He came to Phae's convent a barbarian, but that was before he discovered books. Phae taught him to read, and he set off to read everything he could get his oversized hands on. This in turn led him to the magic of wizards, which he is struggling to learn. He has a bizarre fondness for gnomes, and frequently has to be reminded about clothing, the wearing of.
Somewhere on their road, Phae and Goombah met another odd pair - Jessie and Sparky.
Jessie is a gypsy bard, traveling from town to town, trouble to trouble in a painted wagon. She makes trade selling "holy relics" newly minted from the bones of chickens and other, less edible things. She seems to be fond of animals, and keeps several pets, including:
Sparky the Wonder Druid (I am not making this up). Sparky is a gnomish druid who was once prone to spending days in quiet contemplation in the tops of the trees of his grove. Unfortunately, the tops of the trees in Sparky's grove seem to be the tallest things in the immediate area, and the hapless druid has been struck by lightning on several occasions, leaving him a bit, well, unhinged. Due to this unhappy circumstance, and his occasional (and completely uncontrollable) tendency to emit electrical shocks, his superiors felt that perhaps he should give over his grove to some other druid for a bit and go on walkabout. He now travels with Jessie, who has some (not unfounded) concern that he might, in fact, burn the wagon down someday.

Will continue with session 2 notes sometime before session 3, which happens Saturday.

What system and world are you running in? :)

I'm running based on the new D&D rules (I know 3e has been out for ages now, but I think it'll always be the 'new rules' to me - sort of like 'new Coke'), though there are enough world concepts that don't necessarily match the Greyhawky setting of the new core books that it might as well be d20 open.

The world that they're in at the moment is sort of a house blend fantasy world, but I'm trying to herd them into an interplanar sort of experience. I really wish WotC would issue a Planescape set for the new rules, but I think I could be waiting on that for a while, so I may just sort of meld in some of the 2nd ed. Planescape stuff. The game is still young though, so who knows where we'll end up. I've got a whole head full of worlds undiscovered and unplayed-in, and I don't mind co-opting other people's either.

I miss Planescape.

That was one of my favorite settings ever, barring the Forgotten Realms.

And now for a blatant plug: "If your group ever decides they'd like to play with samurai, ninja and high drama, feel free to have them check out 'Rokugan' by Alderac Entertainment Group as well as the many awesome supplements to 'Rokugan', like Way of the Samurai, Way of the Ninja, Way of the Shugenja and the Secrets of the Clans series!"

(Sorry, I'm a writer for the Secrets of the Clan series and I love the medieval Japanese/Chinese world of Rokugan.) ;)

Sounds cool, so I hope it turns out well. Keep me posted. :)
