As most of you know, we're off to DragonCon over Labor Day weekend. This is good.

However, there are a couple of things we need some help on, if someone would be so kind:

1) [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare/[livejournal.com profile] agrnmn: Can we come over tonight or tomorrow and use your sewing machine?
2) General population: Could someone come over and feed the beasties? [livejournal.com profile] druidevo said he would take care of it, but that was before the thing about moving to Lawrence. We will feed them Friday morning, but the Black Beast is used to getting fed daily lately, and the Small Spotted Beastie goes through a bowl of frisks every two days or so. We'll be back late Monday, so we're probably just talking Saturday/Sunday here.
3) Also general population: Does anybody have a pair of black fingerless gloves (short, not elbow-length), and/or a black coat with tails that they would be willing to loan us for the trip?

Thanks muchly!

I suspect if all we need now is fringe and the second piece of green, our time is better spent with you getting what we need. Glad you found bells.

I *should* be done by 7-ish, which begs the question of what we do afterward. Sewing? Household check-in/9F spice council? Last one was at the end of April, probably about time, with everything going on...

I don't think we even need the second piece of green, really. I think we can cut a diagonal in the one piece that we have and make both out of it. Unless you think it would work better doubled over.

I understand that Saff is going to be otherwise occupied tonight with the return of water to the house and the sleeping, so probably won't want much to do with us (relatively speaking). We can do the sewing either tonight or tomorrow night, your call.

Aha. I had been debating about trying to double-up the fabric, or leave it as is. The positive to doing it as a double-layer shawl is primarily that it will a) be a little more weighty on the shoulders, less likely to fly away, and b) the underparts where the reverse/fringe seam are are covered. On the negative side, it'll be somewhat harder to make everything line up just right.

We could ask Saff's opinion. IIRC, the green was the $2.50/yard on sale stuff, so it would be a minimal expense, just a slightly larger hassle to make them. Tomorrow night would be after Druid Study Group, is why I was suggesting tonight...but spending tonight at home is fine too.

I can pick up some more green, then. No big thing.
I'll grab that and the fringe, and then come home. We can sew tomorrow night (and when I say 'we', I realize I mostly mean 'I', because you'll be working and then going to class.).

I need to finish working on my resume tonight anyway, and maybe [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants will help me cut teardrops.

Why don't you just come pick up the sewing machine while you're getting fabic? If it's not too far out of your way, that gives you the option of sewing whenever you like in the comfort of your own home. We don't need the machine back before DragonCon, anyway.

Not that I don't want to spend time with you. :)

Thank you so much

Like at midnight last night. The first Aes Sedai shawl is 80% done, just need to affix the teardrop.

By the way, Satin Sucks, but it's So Shiny. But you knew that...

Was a bit worried this morning - I didn't see the shawl anywhere, and thought you might have chucked it into outer darkness in your Druidy Rage.

Incidentally, Coworker D, who is (obviously) of Irish descent, also reports that August is her Month of Cranky. It's my first report of August Crank in Non-Druids. I think I'll write a thesis.

Nah, I took it to show C, and it's hanging on the closet door in the bedroom, where the Spotted Beast can't eat/claw/shed on it.

Ah, satin. I can only sew with it about once a year, because that's about how long it takes to recover from the last time...

For me, that was last summer's all-night session of sewing the "shoot me" cloak for J's birthday.
