Two things of note for the weekend.

One is that, with [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants gone, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I have been having a minor festival of Doing Things She Wouldn't Want To Be Involved in. So far, we've gone to see Land of the Dead (which was a little like the civil rights movement and/or the marxist class struggle, only with zombies), cleaned in the kitchen, cut [livejournal.com profile] zylch's hair in the kitchen, and eaten red beans and rice. Later, there could be whiskey. We can, of course, do all of these things when she is home, but she makes faces at us for some of them, and won't kiss us after we've been drinking whiskey, so it's uncertain whether there's any percentage in it or not.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid has offended the water demons at EHQ. Saturday night, he looked cross-wise at the downstairs toilet while re-installing a toilet paper holder and caused it to flood in Biblical fashion. It reportedly flooded not only from the bowl, in the way of normal toilet-flooding, but also from the tank, and from underneath the bowl, just for spite. On the plus side, it was clean water.

Then, yesterday, he apparently offended the kitchen sink demons by asking the sink to function as a place where dishes could be washed. This resulted in the faucet coming out of the sink in his hands, and a piece of something underneath the sink snapping off, causing some leakage from the pipe.

I'm pretty sure we can fix the sink thing. The toilet thing may result in the demolishment of the downstairs bathroom and its conversion into a closet. Maybe. I was pretty resolute about that yesterday, but then I had to pee at 4:30 this morning and had to navigate the stairs in the dark half-asleep. So maybe some reconsideration is in order.

I also compared Land of the Dead to the Marxist rebellion. Guess I can stop patting myself on the back for being so insightful now.

So what, you can't be clever if somebody agrees with you?

No, you're right of course. I'm just having a low self-esteem morning. Sorry.

Just don't actually put it IN the sinks or toilets, or you'll make the plumbing demons mad.

but remember we already had our 2 floods in one day a few weeks back. we got it taken care of now (i hope) mainly it was due to my over abundance in emotions at the time.

Big Daddy & SPOILERS

What is it about the Big Daddy zombie that made it apparently more intelligent AND charismatic? I use these terms carefully, as I'm sure that nearly any Scooby Doo ploy would have fooled it. I was more reminded of the French Revolution. The scene with the butcher zombie chopping through the wall seemed more like a zombified Storming of the Bastille.

No definite answer on that -- it wasn't explained at any point. He was just a better zombie than the other zombies.

I think a zombie film about the French Revolution would be pretty nifty, except for the whole guillotining thing... I mean, if the main threat from zombies is that they might bite you, a zombie with no head isn't very scary, just sort of sad.

I got the idea that all the zombies were evolving thought, communication, tools, and organization, some more quickly than others, and Big Daddy was just the first one that we saw.

I thought so as well, but as [livejournal.com profile] triadruid pointed out: Evolution, without breeding and a chance for mutation, isn't.

Sorry, I meant "learning" not "evolving." As a stickler for accurate use of language, I should have known better.

Although I don't think that one ought to expect zombies to comply too strictly to science-as-we-know-it.

I JUST had an epiphany! Don't worry, it didn't hurt. I have seen two general types of zombie films. One in which the zombies are brought on by spooky Voo Doo powers, and the other, although usually unexplained, where the zombies are actually normal people that have been infected by a virus.

I therefore propose that it's not the zombies changing, but the virus. It's evolving to create a more effective host.

I think that the zombies in the Romero set are created by radiation, actually...

D'oh! I missed the beginning. Oooh- Perhaps the zombie virus is merely a normal one that's been mutated by the radiation?

Nya-nyah!

My theory is that it's just the dead returning to life, slowly. The first thing to come back was basic motor functions. Higher brain functions come back too, apparently, it just takes longer.

I suppose it's impossible to know until we hear from Mr. Romero.

So if what you're saying is true, by that rationale if given enough time to themselves the zombies would be driving cadillacs and having pleasant tea parties. Perhaps having scones with noggin pate spread? That'd be a sight!

Yeah, exactly. An advantage to this theory is that it helps the allegory work better.
