So apparently, a couple of weeks ago, Penn & Teller's Bullshit did a show on "Family Values" -- dealing with the myth of the "traditional family" and all that sort of thing. We don't have cable at my house, and generally wouldn't turn the box on if we did, but this sounds like the sort of thing we'd be interested in (and we like Penn & Teller a lot, too).

Apparently it's going to be on again tomorrow night. Does anybody local have the Showtime channel? And if you do, would you be willing to make a tape of the show for us? Pretty please?

Oooooh! That would be lurvely. Am willing to trade for pie, but as pie mails very poorly, perhaps that end of the deal should wait until you are come to visit. :)

Oddly enough, I had it uploaded in my journal via yousendit last week or so. Not sure if you have the bandwidth but I'd be willing to upload it again if you can't get it via other means.

It was a pretty inspiring episode in terms of nontraditional family units.

I had seen that. Right before I went to work, and I said to myself, "Self, you ought to download that when you get home." And then, hours passed, and air went in and out of my lungs, and I forgot about it. Until a few hours ago, when I went back and found that the yousendit dealie had expired. And then I was sad. But now [livejournal.com profile] greektoomey is going to send me his copy.

We're all pretty excited about the whole thing over here -- good press for alternative lifestyles is always welcome, and you know, Penn & Teller.

I've posted the url in my journal. Have at!

(Dunno how you are with media, if you have any trouble playing it, I can help.)

Apparently, I'm not very good with media. I got the file, but I apparently don't have the right program to get the video portion to work. :(

Try using VLC Media Player. I have not yet found a video file of any format that VLC won't play.

When all else fails, download something that works.

Thanks! I can see the show now.

VLC worked? YAY!

What did you think of the episode? Should I watch it?

Yeah, it was pretty good. Much more entertaining than informative, but hey, TV, whaddya want?

Yeah, Penn & Teller tend to be pretty flash-dazzle in their presentation, but just the fact that they're frequently saying things that no one else is saying is heartening.

Yep. The fact that an alternative voice is speaking at all (especially on sacred cow issues) is a dramatic improvement over homogeneity.

I'm not gonna argue with that a bit. I was mostly just hoping that this would be something that I could use in a class I am developing, and I'm not sure that it will fit - I assume that most of the audience for the class will already be aware that there are a variety of possible family structures.
