General Update

Sometime this weekend, possibly when I was complaining of the Great Hangover I incurred by trying to go drink for drink with opaljax (who is of Slavic extraction and ex-military besides), a theory was proposed which, if proven correct, would be a simple key to the understanding of the workings of Celtic societies. The theory, proposed by kittenpants, is this: Whisky makes you competitive.

Also, buttons. I am anticipating the arrival of the button machine some time in the early part of this week. EHQ's output of general snarkiness and giggling should be up for the month of March, accordingly.

Finally, I managed to penetrate to page 209 of The Aforementioned Monster, at which point there is an indication of plot afoot! There are kings and conspiracies and secret alchemical labs, which delights me. The Ceremonial Chucking of the Book at an Unfortunate Object will, therefore, be postponed.

As easy a drunk as I am, can't see tht theory working. It would be fun to give it a try, though.;-)

I don't think it was implied that it made you a *better* competitor, simply that it made you more inclined to wish to compete. (Unless, of course, you are me, and the competition involves reflex times. I'm chemically special, in that whisky improves my reflexes.)

In related news, it seems that the temp that was in the position you interviewed for at my company has now been hired on full-time. Sorry bout that. :(

There was a mostly-full bottle of ButterShots, at one point. Now, there isn't. Whisky makes you competitive, rum makes you horny, but schnapps, schnapps just make you verdrunken.

I think liquidfun would agree on the schnapps comment. I think he can now tolerate the taste of peppermint again, in small amounts. It had something to do with not one, but 2 bottles of peppermint schnapps while a freshman in college.
I guess the only thing I've ever drunk to excess is beer, wine, and mead. None of those seem to have any unusual effects, such as competitiveness, etc. Boring, that's me...

Mmmm. Minty doom.

We had started cataloguing different types of drunkenness the other day and attempting to determine which sorts of alcohol were likely to produce them, from experience and observation. I would posit that cheap yellow beer makes you loud, stout makes you expository, wine makes you gloomy and existential, and mead makes you touchy-feely.

Your mileage may vary.

Incidentally, I'm eating butter rum Life Savers today at a brisk pace, so presumably no permanent damage to my butterscotch facilities was incurred.

It's my understanding that any time I endeavor to drink tequila that I am entering into a relationship in which I am not going to be the dominant partner. As long as I am a good sub to tequila, it does not punish me any more than strictly necessary. Try to fight the tequila, however, and things get ugly quickly.

Tequila and I have a relationship of mutual respect. I don't drink any other liquor and no more than two beers when it's a tequila-swilling night. Just me, tequila shots and a full glass of very icy water, and it's a fun night all around watching people trying to keep up.

You say the very nicest things!! If it makes you feel better, I got three (and very little more) hours of sleep yesterday morning, but got about 7 hours of sleep last night, and I still feel very tired. ::Sigh:: the trials and tribulations of getting old. No hangover, just very tired.
