It's filter update time -- reducing misdirected content since 2006. I've got four filters going currently, and am adding two new ones. If you're on the local events filter, you're going to read about things happening in Kansas City. If you're on the Discordian filter, you're going to read ... well, it's sort of hard to say. If you're on the deep Pagan woowoo filter, you're going to get stuff about rituals and divinations and other religious stuff. If you're on the fiction filter, you'll get my occasional sad attempts at writing. If you're on the Balderdash filter, you get Balderdash. If you're on the Subconscious Theater filter, you get dreams.

So pick your filters, kids, and spare yourself time and trouble. If you don't respond, I decide what I want you to be on. Ha. :-P

I posted this on Thursday, but didn't get enough responses to make continuing the round worth the effort, so I figured I'd repost it and give the players another day to respond. The question is:

In 1965, Terry Pratchett was 16. He published his second short story this year, which contained the line "Brewer has taken to praying a lot. I think he was a fool to volunteer for this trip, but I suppose I can see his reasons.". What was the name of this short story, and what was it about?

Iff'n you want to play, please respond within the next 24 hours or so. Answers are screened and the usual stuff applies.

On Saturday, in an act of film-based masochism, we watched both older Pirates of the Caribbean movies and then went out to see the new one (my ass is still numb). At World's End is wildly stupid, and also wildly enjoyable. Which is, I suppose, what people expect. It also contains ships in more landscapes than seems reasonable (Pirates Based in the Caribbean but also Sailing Elsewhere?), which is fun.
[livejournal.com profile] kittenpants thinks of the potential abuses in the slash fiction community -- will we see Jack/Jack now? Some discussion followed in which we decided that Jack/Jack is an improbable pairing, because 1) two Jacks probably couldn't shut up long enough to get to any sort of meaningful business, 2) Jack has to be the top, so all you get with Jack/Jack is a oneupmanship contest, and most importantly 3) no self-respecting Jack Sparrow would ever turn his back on another Jack Sparrow.

Thing I most wanted to know after the film: What happened to Davy Jones? Did he reconcile with Calypso after he died? Did she forgive him? Did she suck him down to the depths to torment his soul for all eternity? What? That was the resolution that I wanted in the final scene -- I'm pretty sure that Elizabeth wanted to have Will's kid and that Will was the sort of guy who generally does what he's responsible to do, so the actual last scene was pretty unnecessary, IMHO.

Second best part: Captain Teague, keeping the Code. When he walks onto the screen, half the theater starts busting up laughing, except for the guys next to me, who are all going "Who's that guy? Why is that funny?". Oh well.

Also: They shot the fucking monkey out of a fucking cannon. Who can ask for anything better than that from a film like this? I ask you.

Also this weekend, I:
- Went to Friday Night Supper Club at Tropical Palms, which had excellent food and wretchedly terrible service. The company was good, though.
- Got in a decent-sized shipment of new jewelry-making stuff, which only increases my need to do a show soon.
- Did the co-created ritual thing at Gaia Community. These are rituals built by the people in attendance, and are often awful. In this one, we did a living tarot spread, which was nifty, and on the whole, it was not such a bad ritual.
- Spent a lot of time playing the Neverwinter Nights expansions. I finished the original game shortly after buying it the first time, but hadn't played these yet. One day I am hoping to transition to the playing of relatively newer video games, but I spend so little time gaming that I've got two or three really old ones to finish before I can do that.
- Went with [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare to clean up Crestview Park for Wild Hare's community service day. We picked up a lot of trash, which was expected, and got a weird benediction including Kurt Vonnegut quotes and the phrase "you guys are the white blood cells of the planet" from a random homeless guy in the park, which was not so much expected. We took this as a good omen.
- Took [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn's computer apart to put in some cannibalized parts, only to relearn that parts cannibalized from Dells and other prebuilt systems do not necessarily fit into standard machines. Bastards.
- Got technology envy. [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn is getting a new laptop. I want one. Or at least I want an upgrade to my desktop. (I actually don't know what I would do with a laptop if I had one. I'm just being magpie-like.)
