Spent the weekend trying to break even, I think.

Saturday, it seemed like a lot got done, but on reflection, all we really did was eat, go to the Ritual for Business, go to the library, get haircuts, and buy toys for the Chaos Hound. Oh, and go for a walk. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid tried to talk me into building a bookcase, but I was a project wuss and didn't think I could do it. Further research indicates that I probably could, but by the time I realized that, it was too late to mess with it this week.

Sunday, went to Gaia and talked about virtues. I did really well in the focus on the task at hand department, and made some notes about what my virtues were and how I should be implementing them, and then, in that breaking even kind of way, left my notes at the church, or had them thrown away while I wasn't paying attention. On the plus side, I suppose I can now say that I lost my virtue in church, which is something. After that, we dropped by [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold and [livejournal.com profile] iron_clad's place, so that I could poke about on their computer and try to talk it into running [livejournal.com profile] iron_clad's new Warhammer video game. After hours and hours of tinkering, downloading, attempting to patch, and so on, it still doesn't work. This does not appear to be my fault, it really seems to be, comment-on dit? Crappy.

Then, last night, I had a dream in which some people who were new to Gaia on Sunday invited us to their house, where we discovered that their job was bioengineering housepets. Their house was full of kittens, who, when you tapped the side of their heads, lit up like neon signs. We were appalled -- didn't the kittens overheat? No, in fact, the kittens were fine. So I don't know what that means.

How was your weekend?

My relationship to computers, as summed up in a conversation between me and [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants last night:

I don't actually know anything about how computers work. I'm not educated in the field, I don't know all of the terminology, or have any standardized background in the things at all. I do, however, have a kind of Cargo Cult proficiency with them -- I repeat rituals I have witnessed being successful in similar situations, I pray to them and bargain with them and curse them, and kludge together unlikely fixes based on my limited and probably skewed understanding of principle. I am a sort of computer witch doctor. This behavior is, oddly enough, successful about 75-80% of the time, which is better than you can get from most tech support, so I call it good.
