He's a mellow long-haired druid type, otterish defender of civic order, and person voted most likely to take the trash out. She's a belligerent redhead sometimes-writer with a penchant for striped footwear. Together, they fight... fires, apparently.

[livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were out for a pleasant walk around the neighborhood last night, when, in passing the apartment complex behind EHQ, I smelled smoke. Some clever bugger had upended his barbecue grill into the grass, leaving a pile of live coals smouldering in the dry grass under a lovely tree by the side of the road. For reference, this is the apartment complex that had a large chunk of building burn to the ground earlier this summer.

Back to EHQ we went, and filled up some bottles with water from the hose. It wasn't going to take long to douse the thing and come back, we thought, so we left the hose running in the dog pool. We hauled our water back around and doused the coals and surrounding grass. By the time we got back to the house, the dog pool had overflowed, and there was a minor flood in the backyard. Fire at one end of the street, flood at the other. "And I think there was an air elemental in here, too," said [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, "but I can't prove it."

I figured this was good for a three-point alignment shift towards Good, but [livejournal.com profile] triadruid was pretty sure that any points we'd managed to gain, we'd subsequently lost through the process of cursing the sorry bastard that dumped the things in the first place. Ah, well. You win some, you lose some.

(Also, this is the closest thing I have to a superhero icon. Funny, that.)

Ah, late August. The birthday has passed, moving us along to the next major festival of the year: Packing for DragonCon. Which brings us again to the immortal question, upon which the fate of at least the trip, and possibly the universe, depends:
