As I'm sure you know if you've been out to vote this morning, the lines at the polls were pretty damned amazing. And if you're on the Blue side of the house, that's got to be good. They say Democrats benefit from high voter turnout, but Republicans don't. So I figure the best way to make everybody happy is for the Dems to go to the polls, and the GOP crowd to stay home :-P

Anyhow, if you haven't dragged it out to the voting booth yet, you ought to. It's going to be a *zoo* tonight. And I know that I don't have to tell anyone how important this election is.

Extra special fun, in Missouri there are actually Libertarian and Constitution party candidates for most of the contested races. That's exciting. I'm all for the development of third parties into viable political entities. The Libertarians, particularly, since I think that they could answer the needs of fiscal conservatives who aren't entranced with the GOP's unholy alliance with the Christian right. I don't mind the Libs - I skew way left on social issues, but hold pretty center in the economic dimension.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid brought home his Condorcet voting experiment data today, so we get to play with that tonight, while we're drinking heavily waiting for the returns. Whee!

My little sister is getting married.

Will be taking "welcome to maiden aunthood" notices at any time. Jeebus.

Not only that, but she's marrying some guy I've never met or heard of. He's a Navy guy.

Meh.

In case anybody wonders why I don't check my voicemail, this is why. If you don't actually get me on the phone, you should not have the right to dump things like this on me.

EDIT: This bothers me on several levels. One is, of course, that my little sister is doing major "normal life" milestones before I do - I had a similar "throw up the white flag" reactions to the fact that she owns her own house and the fact that she has decided what to do with her life and is currently in a pre-vet program in college. She's 20 (I think) for gods' sake. Not that this should surprise me, since I've never really been on the "normal life" path (not for long, or seriously, anyway). Still, conditioning is a bitch. Even though we're running completely different races, I still sort of feel like not only am I behind her, but she's lapped me. My father is, of course, inordinately proud of her. She's everything his daughter should be. Hell, he bought her the house.

The other thing that bothers me is that I haven't really ever been there for my sisters. Not only do I not know the fiance, I didn't even know she was dating anybody. I can't even make a statement with mortal certainty about how old she is. And this is the sister I speak to *more* often. I don't even know where my other sister is living, or what she's doing at all.

I suck at having family. I repeat, meh.

OK. Second person announcing major life alteration today. Ex-boyfriend and giraffe wrangler D. is being told by the Army docs that he needs brain surgery to remove pressure on the nerve that's been giving him so much trouble. They think it's a swollen blood vessel, but it could be something more exciting.

So, being as things come in threes, who else has something to announce? Go ahead and do it, would you?
