Rule of my world: I can only manage one person with any given name in my life at a time. Therefore, if you move into my sphere, and you have a name which already belongs to someone in my sphere, I will ask you to give another name for yourself, and if you do not have one, I will assign you one. It's just easier this way.

Your name may change over time, as your presence, and the presence of others with your name in my world waxes or wanes. If you are given a new name, it will probably be your last name (ex. Simpson), or a screen name that you use (ex. Werebear), or something of that nature. But not always.

Example: The ex who called about the giraffe. His name is David. Which was good, when he was The David, but now I have [livejournal.com profile] triadruid who is The David. Hence, I resorted to another name for him - his mother once registered him for school as "Daven", quite accidentally, due to poor handwriting. He got to be that for a while in my world. But now, I spend a reasonable amount of time with [livejournal.com profile] druidevo, who is The Devin, which is pretty damned close. So I will need a new name for the other one, again. I'm thinking Octavio. It's got a hell of a ring to it, Octavio.

i just call everybody "Spanky" or "Slappy" Spanky mostly. Sorta like how George Foreman named all his kids George. It's just easier this way, Spanky.

Bit rough when you're telling a story with a lot of characters in it though. I mean, as long as it's just "Spanky said to Slappy", that's cool, but when you get into "Spanky, Spanky and Slappy went to pick up Spanky and Slappy", then you're getting perilously close to a Monty Python sketch.

Nice pic, btw. That was a fantastic show, Count Duckula. I was particularly fascinated by the episode where they went to Egypt (Speaking of naming conventions...) "I am the High Priest of Ra, Who-might. And this is my assistant, You-be. Who might you be?" :)

I remember Count Duckula. I remember Danger Mouse. I remember that the one came on right after the other, and that I liked the both enough to risk Parental Wrath™ by dawdling on my way to dinner so that I could catch a few extra seconds.

But damn if I can remember a single plotline or character name besides the title ones.

Danger-mouse, dun dun dun...

I remember Penfold, DM's sidekick. Never did figure what he was; a chipmunk??

Rember Zac from our wedding? He would keep two names - one male and one female... and if he either didn't know your name - or already new someone of that name than you indiscriminantly became "Gerald" or "Lucy" - but he would only "name" people with names of people he'd never met before.

Octavio does have a nice ring to it.

*shrug*
I suppose I could. I think he'd be happier to be Octavio though. I'll ask.

And then there's [livejournal.com profile] finnchu, who, granted, is low enough on the totem pole to get another appelation, like Big Furry Druid... (BFD?)

Reminds me of the confusion between the 'short furry druid' and the 'tall furry druid', who I've taken to calling Dave vs. David, which doesn't eliminate confusion, but slows it somewhat.

Wow. Feeling really, really screwed by the one person per name rule - especially since, technically, *I* was first! Guess I'll just have to stick with Alpha Wench. Luckily, I'm old enough now to be able to call everyone the generic "hon" without repercussion. Everybody writes it off to early onset Alzheimer's anyway.
