Concerts:

1. What was the first concert you ever attended? How old were you? Where was it?

The first concert I ever attended was the Marshall Tucker Band, which my parents dragged me along for when I was 8 or 9. It was either at the Jacksonville Landing, or at another bandshell sort of thing along the St. Johns River. I didn't care much about it, and actually didn't get to see/hear much of the show (and my parents didn't, either) as I was dreadfully pukey ill, and spent most of the time in the bathroom.
The first concert I went to of my own volition was Pink Floyd, on the Pulse Tour. I saw them at the stadium in Tampa, which was pretty damned cool. I was in the tenth grade at the time, I think - I still had to go with my parents, but I got to take my girlfriend along, so yay to that.

2. What was the most recent concert you attended? Where and when?
I saw Elvendrums at Heartland, but I don't know if that counts. The last show I actually bought a ticket to see was Type O Negative and Lacuna Coil at the Beaumont, which was last August.

3. Have you ever seen your favorite artist/band in concert? Did the show live up to your expectations or were you disappointed?
I never have seen any of my favorites. I had bought tickets to Lollapalooza this year, for the express purpose of seeing Morrissey, but that sort of FAILED. Bastards.

I suppose I could go to Curiosa, but it wouldn't be the same, and the Cure sounds like dreck these days anyway - Mr. Smith's voice really hasn't held out at all, which is unfortunate.

4. Ever been to a concert where you were pleasantly surprised at the performance? Ever been to a concert where you were totally disappointed?
I went with [livejournal.com profile] triadruid to see Sophie B. Hawkins at Zoofest, which I had no expectations of note about - I was thinking I'd deposit him at the stage with [livejournal.com profile] chaosdruid and then go stare at hippopotami for a couple hours or something, but the show turned out okay. She brought a bunch of kids up on stage with her, out of the audience, which was really entertaining - one of them stole her shoe.

The most disappointing and generally awful performance I've ever seen was A Flock of Seagulls, playing in some oldies club in Jacksonville, in 2001. Nothing's bitter like a group of men who have come to the realization that the only thing anybody wants out of them is fifteen years of repeating the same three songs, night after night. They had generated apparently a fair amount of new material since the mid 80's, and it was pretty good, but nobody wanted to hear that, just "I Ran" over, and over again. It was actually painful to witness.

5. Name five bands that would headline your own personal festival. (Along the lines of Oz Fest or Lollapalooza)

In no particular order, not necessarily still in existence, and making no particular sense together:
1. Morrissey
2. Tool
3. Orbital
4. Squirrel Nut Zippers
5. Portishead

That would be just surreal.
