Concerning skills:
I tend to think that, in the immortal words of Red Green, "If I can do it, it ain't art." Things I can do, sayeth this thought-model, are things that anyone could do, and therefore no big deal. Nevermind that there are people in the world who can't do many of the things I do. That's not important. They could, if they wanted to.

I fail to apply that model to things that other people do that I don't do, however. I stand in awe of skills I don't have, people that do things I don't/can't do.

Comparing these two views, it becomes apparent to me that there is something here that doesn't line up. Hrm.... *clue-by*

Laughing at myself?

If I didn't get where you were going, I wouldn't be laughing. With all of the things I am able to do, I still find myself envious of anyone who can combine both skill and innate talent. As much as I am thrilled and inspired by music, I have no talent for it. Sure, I can sing a little...if you can call it singing by comparison. So, here's what I do: I learn what I can, do what I am able to do and leave the rest to the talented and trained professionals. Please kids, don't try this at home on your backyard trampolene. Sure, I'm jealous of some, but I'm happy with who and what I am so I try not to worry about the rest! = )

Physician Magician heal thyself, in other words?

I'm glad this occurred to you. Not only because I suffer from the same malaise and therefore didn't feel quite morally justified in pointing it out to you, but because it's true that you are one of the most amazingly talented individuals I have ever known. You make my head hurt with some of the connections you make (and that *is* a skill, honey), and the knowledge you have on some subjects is encyclopedic.

Give yourself a little credit. It'll probably make you a better person, if only because you won't be so bruised from beating yourself (or us beating you out of frustration).

Aw, thanks, babe...

But I like it when you beat me.

I was thinking of opening a thread for boasting sometime. Would you play?
