I just whacked the everliving light out of the offending joint on the side of my desk as I was standing up. The disturbing sounds have ceased.

Engineer rule #1: If it doesn't work, thump it.

Ne meither (and I have no intention to), it just reminded me.

Apparently, the Wizard's First Rule is "People are stupid." I leave applicability as an exercise for the reader.
