I disagree with you. I don't know what about, but I am over 97% certain that I disagree with you about something, somewhere. Maybe it's a big something, a core principle, whether or not the universe has meaning, or what the right direction for the country to go in might be. Maybe it's a little something, a matter of preference, whether you look better with brown hair or blue, whether or not the movie was any good. But something, somewhere.

And I'm going to tell you when I do, if you ask, or if you just mention whatever it is in a context and tone that invites conversation. I'm not trying to piss you off. I'm not trying to invalidate you, or even the view that you're currently holding out. If I didn't dislike you before you gave whatever statement I'm disagreeing with, odds are really good that I'm still not going to dislike you after. I'm not going to try and get you to change your mind. I may or may not change mine.

All I'm doing is offering a different perspective. My opinions are worth no more and no less than anyone else's on this earth. Not even to me. I want to know why you think what you think. I want you to know why I think what I think. It's not a personal attack. It's not a malicious act. Just an understanding that there is more than one way to look at everything. That's all.

Frankly I expect disagreement from everyone I meet. I suspect I would be very disappointed were I ever to meet someone who agreed with me on everything. Can't be sure maybe I'd like a personal sycophant.

You on the other hand I expect reasoned disagreement from (a higher standard). You are therefore one of the people who's opinions I wont discount ever.

1. You actually agree with me, you just don't know it yet.
2. You do know what you think you disagree about, you're just acting coy.
3. You aren't going to tell me when you think you disagree with me about something, because it will be patently obvious that I am correct and you were mistaken, and actually do agree with me.
4. You are just trying to piss me off by playing devil's advocate, as you really, truly do agree with me in your heart of hearts.
5. Your opinion of me will change when you find out that I am right about everything and you don't need to go to all the trouble of forming what you think are your own opinions.
6. You're doing a heck of a lot more than merely offering a different viewpoint, you're willfully and maliciously refusing to see The Truth.
7. There is only one way to look at anything: my way. All else is heresy.
