Things that make me cranky
Jun. 11th, 2004 08:26 amListing meme picked up from
kcwitch. Original instructions were to bold the things in the list that piss you off, and then add three of your own. The list is getting long though, so I thought I'd just list the things that piss me off, and then add mine. And then, you know, add commentary (italicized).
So there.
2. detailed voicemails instead of email
5. holier-than-thou vegetarians
6. Inappropriate Capitalization (also, complete lack of capitalization)
8. extolling of childrens' wide-eyed innocence
9. lack of continuity in movies/TV (Except in generally bad film, where it's a bonus)
26. people who reek of stale cigarette smoke all the time
30. being touched by strangers (without permission) (bonus points if they're in an altered state and I'm not)
31. Rabid know-it-all fanboys with superiority complexes. (bonus points for "lifestyle" fanboys - i.e. those who wear the Star Trek uniform to places other than costume parties.)
44. People who think that having a different point of view makes you automatically totally unAmerican.
45. Media pavlovian tactics designed to make us react a certain way to certain stimuli: like 9/11
46. Parents who allow their children to act up in public places.
52. Having to repeat myself.
53. Text messenger talk in any other situation than when it's actually being typed on a pager/cell phone/other device with very tiny keyboard and screen.
54. People who are genuinely deeply interested in celebrity marriages.

Date: 2004-06-11 04:52 pm (UTC)Used to be a Trekkie, but that died with NEXT GENERATION. My reasons are pretty much echoed by Roger Ebert's review of STAR TREK: NEMESIS, which can be found on the Chicago Sun-Times webpage. I would provide a link, but I'm sure that there are more people who don't really care and there's no need to bore them with it.
I'm reminded, though, of when whatever local chapter of Starfleet used to visit the KC RenFaire on a yearly basis, always in their NextGen uniforms. At one point, several rennies surrounded them and shouted, "Freeze program!" Ironically, they didn't get it.
Sondheim geeks can be, in their own way, as annoying, but at least the material is classier.

Date: 2004-06-12 01:07 pm (UTC)While Captain Kirk garnered the rep for being the guy to throw a punch, Patrick Stewart kept himself in good enough shape that I'd bet on him in a physical battle against Captain Kirk any day of the week. The difference is that I'd also bet on him more readily finding a way to avoid the need to fight in the first place, which I find decidedly more admirable.
This was not a view shared by my fellow Navy personnel (or 'squids'), but go figure.
