Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] jackbabalon23 for the songs, and [livejournal.com profile] kcwitch for the other bit...

Seven songs I'm happy with right now:
1. Dresden Dolls - Half Jack. I know it's actually about her fantastically dysfunctional relationship with the idea of her father, and perhaps her mother's dysfunctional relationship with her father, but much of it works for me on a level relating to gender issues, and that's fun. Still dysfunctional, but fun.
2. Soft Cell - Tainted Love. BONK BONK! That's really it on this one. It's been stuck in my head for about three weeks now, due to the BONK BONK thing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, pull it up and listen to it. The original, not the Pussycat Dolls cover. There's this recurring keyboard thing... BONK BONK! It's amusing.
3. The Killers - All These Things That I've Done. I'm mostly enjoying singing along to this one, and mostly the bit that goes "I wanna shine on in the hearts of man". I don't know why that appeals to me as much as it does, but it does.
4. Nine Inch Nails - Only. I very much liked Nine Inch Nails when I was in high school, and The Downward Spiral is still among my favorite albums, but I haven't been really excited about anything they've put out since oh.... "The Perfect Drug". (I do make an exception for "The Great Below" or whatever that one is.) This stuff, though, on the new album, some of it is more appealing. This one is full of fun because it's all pop-solipsist and stuff, and that makes me giggle.
5. Franz Ferdinand - Do You Wanna? I enjoy this for the cheerful cockiness, belligerence, and homoeroticism. I'm pretty sure the "cheerful" is distributive.
6. Squirrel Nut Zippers - Something's Going to Happen Soon. Another recent stuck-in-my-head sort of experience. I really wish I hadn't chewed on my Perennial Favorites CD. I miss it.
7. The Smiths - Reel Around the Fountain. Speaking of perennial favorites.... "You can pin and mount me.... like a butterfly". *sigh*

Also, [livejournal.com profile] jackbabalon23's list reminded me that there has been a distinct lack of electronica in my diet of late. I resolve to go home and have some Orbital. In fact, there's been a distinct lack of music lately, other than what's on the radio, which I think is reflected somewhat in the above choices. :( Must take care of that.

Five guilty pleasures.... although, to be pedantic about it, I'm not guilty about any of these things. They're more like "Things I like that some people might think I shouldn't, but I don't care."

1. Monster media. Books, movies, anything with monsters in, I like it. [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants defined the ideal film for me as "it's got some monsters in it, and sex, and maybe the monsters have sex", or some such thing, and that's about true. How deep does this go? I liked Van Helsing, that's how deep.
2. Pixy Stix. I have some in my desk drawer right now, as a matter of fact.
3. Sumo Wrestling. I don't understand it, I can't interpret it, but I will watch it any chance I get. It's the most improbable sport in the world, and it cracks me up.
4. 80s music, especially the sort of goth and darkwave stuff. I'll dance to anything by Depesch-ka Mode. (Or the Dead Milkmen. Either way.)
5. Gadget lust. I don't buy all the new shiny tech toys, but I do very much like to look at them. I think I actually prefer shopping to buying, which makes the hobby much cheaper to maintain. There was a moment yesterday when I had to be reassured that the world was, in fact, not going to come to an end if I went without a 30-gig i-Pod. I knew that to be true, but I think I wanted to confirm to someone that I was lusting after something I didn't actually want.
