OK then. Here's a game for a Monday afternoon. Comment with a possible etymology for the phrase "having/getting one's ashes hauled". I will screen all comments. When I get ten replies, I will make a new post, poll-style, and we'll vote for the one that's most likely. Points will be assigned at a rate of one per vote your answer collects. (This serves two purposes. One is entertainment value, two is that I can't even come up with a reasonable faux-etymology for this one, and I'm curious.)
