The sapiosexual agenda
Feb. 26th, 2004 11:07 amCheerfully snatched from
synesis, and much more like unto my perception of the whole marriage thing...
Also, despite my repeated requests to both gay people and straight people I know, I have been unable to obtain a copy of *either* the homosexual agenda *or* the heterosexual agenda. I'm beginning to believe that they don't actually exist.
Insert exclamations of shock and horror here.
Therefore, I'm forced by the situation to generate my own agenda. However, unlike those sneaky homosexuals and heterosexuals, I'm going to tell you right out what it is. Here you go.
1. Brains are what matters. Gender is not worth nearly as much fuss as people make over it. We should stop worrying about it and invest our energy in something more useful.
2. "Marriage" is a religious concept that the state has no business in. A "Civil Union" (or what have you) is functionally a legal contract, binding parties together for economic and social purposes - a merger. As other financial and social contracts may be entered into by any number or type of persons, so it should be possible for civil union contracts to be entered into by any number or type of persons, provided that each party is of legal age and ability to consent. Marriage should have no legal weight, being the province of churches (who should be able to marry whoever they like, or not marry whoever they don't like), and civil unions should be the legal standard for whatever gender distribution a union happens to consist of.
3. While it is desirable that some entertainment and consumer options should appeal to the lowest common denominator of human interest, there is no reason that *all* such options should.
4. That's all. Seriously. That's all I want out of the world today. Stop making a big deal about this gender thing, get the government out of the churches' business (and vice-versa), and don't bore me. Feel free to add your own item(s) here, if you should choose to adopt this agenda for yourself.
