Spent most of the weekend in a geek-filled daze, jumping from one sci-fi based discussion to the next. Most of this centered around the Goodbye Chaos Cube party and subsequent Revenge of the Sith outing. All of this has been covered by other correspondents in a perfectly satisfactory manner. Still, [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris' assault on the Jedi kids (who were in full costume outside the theater promoting the film) armed only with his cereal box lightsaber spoons is worth another mention. There were a number of folks who whipped out their camera phones to capture this brilliant escapade, so I imagine that even now, if you google for "Darth Jackass" or "Lightsaber Spoon Guy" you might find footage on the internet. That's our Large Kitty, always keeping things exciting.

For my part, I took my wookiee to the movies. Said wookiee is an original 1977 Kenner toys wookiee -- for those of you playing along at home, the wookiee is as old as I am. He's lost his bandolier now, and he's been through the wash a time or two, so he sort of looks like a 2-foot block of undifferentiated gnarly fur. These things happen.

The film was entirely enjoyable, if not what you might call high art. At no point did I want to stick the lightsaber spoons into my eyes.

Also of note, I got a note from RequiamEternam, an old friend and fiendishly clever Acrophobia player. Further shiny happiness. I <3 RE.

And then, Sunday Afternoon. Kidspace held the now-annual Pet Blessing at Gaia, which necessitated the presence of Cheerleader Cat and Chaos Hound at the church. This, in turn, necessitated the placing of Cheerleader Cat in the Harness of Happiness so that she could be attached to the Leash of Loving-Kindness. She hates this. She spent some quality time trying to army-crawl out of the harness, much to our amusement. She also sang of her happiness all the way to the church, but that was to be expected.

The dog, on the other hand... I had some reservations about taking him. He pulls on his leash, he's big and rambunctious, and he has a regrettable tendency to want to eat terriers, not to mention mice, gerbils, guinea pigs, and kittens. [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants talked me into it. So we packed him in the car as well, and off we went.

Surprisingly, the dog did none of the horrible things I expected him to do. He found all new horrible things. I took him over to the dog altar, and he waited patiently in line for a moment, then decided he had to take a whiz. Unfortunately, he was on a short lead, and standing next to my foot. This was embarrassing, but understandable. He is, after all, a dog. So, much wiping and taking off of shoes ensued. At some point, it became his turn to be blessed, so I brought him up to the altar for a blessing and a biscuit. He had been at the altar not three seconds before he lifted his leg and pissed on that, too. That was it, he was done for the day. No blessing, no biscuit. Bad dog.

He was, in fact, the worst dog of the day, right up until the illustrious Marley J. Gangler, dog of the illustrious [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare, vomited on a kid's foot.

Following that debacle, there were clean pants, lovely Italian food, and a good hour and a half or so of work on the fence. I am becoming terribly handy with a crowbar. I'd hoped to get the fence done sometime before Midsummer, but am now looking at maybe Lughnassadh. Anybody that wants to stop by and work on a fence anytime is welcome and will probably be fed. Anybody with a nailgun is doubly welcome.

Later, finally cracked open the first of the Sandman series, graciously loaned to us a long time ago by [livejournal.com profile] druidevo. It's quite good - I'm shocked to find that I haven't read any of them until now. Clearly, I should have been reading them all along. I now see what [livejournal.com profile] rio_luna was talking about when she asked me if I had chosen Death as a fashion template. Good times.
