Job-hunt-related bitching

I'm working on my resume today, and I have discovered a problem. Several problems, actually, but the largest one is this: I have no experience getting paid for anything that I feel that I might like to get paid for in the future. I don't want to be an assistant for the rest of my life - actually I'd like to be done with that now, if at all possible. Granted, I've been all sorts of assistant, and this has given me a pretty wide range of skills, but still, I've always been "somebody's secretary", which doesn't really impress people much.

The sort of thing I'm interested in is management and/or training - which I've done, but um... not for pay, and not in any situation I'd care to discuss with potential employers.
I can see that situation now: "Yes, I have extensive program design and facilitation experience, which comes from my work as a priestess... and yes, training experience too - I've taught various aspects of paganism to lots of people."
Somehow I don't think that will go over well in the interview.

Someday, when I am a rich and famous archaeologist, you could come and manage the archaeological park I'll be running. I've already got someone lined up to be a grantwriter, so now I need someone sensible to put the money to use, right? It'd be fabulous.

well couldn't you put it under managed a not for profit organization? you can always use the UUA aspect.

Actually, I have good business experience with several not-for-profits - but they're *all* pagan :)

true which is why i said you shouldn't say pagan or gaia community. you should say UUA. :)

Have you considered sending out a call to all your pagan friends and pagan friends of pagan friends? Surely someone among them is a hiring manager with a position to fill. If so, you can use your experiences within the pagan community without concern for misinterpretation.

You may have to do a resume-building job ... such as manage a convenience store or fast food place for several months in order to get the management (or for that matter, training) experience on the resume.

Another option you might have is to teach at a school like Avila for a semester or two (which you can do while working another job), so you'll have the educational experience.

I know working a job just to be able to say you've done it isn't exactly fulfilling ...
