It's really difficult to figure out why some of my friends are my friends but there are two things that are always true: 1) open-minded and 2) very strong personalities

I've had problems in the past with simply bowling over people with my personality. I didn't do it on purpose, I'm just strong-willed.

This used to happen to me a lot, less so now though - my forcefulness is apparently diluted somewhat by my daoist/discordian apathy. :)
(Though the apathy is apparently quite forceful in and of itself...)
