1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Introduced the Flaunt, and Flaunted; did reconstructionist ritual of several varieties; drank tequila mockingbirds; got a LiveJournal; got a camera and served as photographer at various events; went to Pagan Pride Day; and probably a lot more things that I don't now remember - I try to do things I've never done before as often as the opportunities arise.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes, for the most part. My new year's resolution was to try new things without being afraid of failure, and to fail with style when failure was inevitable. This seemed to work out pretty well, as I seem to have done a number of things this year that I was afraid to try and tried anyway. I think this is a good resolution, and I'm making it again this year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not yet, but my cousin is due any hour now.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I know of.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, sadly. I went to Florida twice and to Atlanta once, and that's about it. The furthest I got from Kansas City by car was Kingsville, or wherever I rode to with
triadruid to pick up his friend last week.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
I think I should probably work on that getting out of the city thing, so, travel.
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory?
November 9th.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not setting anybody on fire, including myself.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing to get over myself. Maybe next year.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No more than usual. I had the flu twice, my left knee hurts like utter hell most of the time, but that's about par for the course.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The digital camera. Now I can remember forever all the goofy-ass things we do.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Damned near everybody.
kcwitch,
diermuid and all the heroes who helped me move out of my apartment,
kittenpants and
triadruid for generally putting up with my crap and being fabulous people,
triadruid again for always being there to tell me to suck it up when I needed that,
saffronhare for working the pillars with me and for being generally lovely, hell, everybody. *Hugs the whole tribe*
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My ex. I suppose that that is the way of exes, though. Also, Davin's wife. Bleh and fie upon her, but hopefully she can get some help.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills and general fucking about (as always).
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Flaunts, rituals, the adult ed program, SPiRaL, boys in eyeliner, dressing up my friends, hell, everything - being excited is my SOP.
16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
I don't know - this was the year of turning off the radio for the most part, so I don't really have one.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
Way, way happier.
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same, really.
iii. richer or poorer?
Having more disposable income.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Listening to what people actually are saying, as opposed to listening to what I think they are saying.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being afraid.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Apparently, I'm going with
kittenpants and
triadruid to
kittenpants' Dad's christmas gathering. So that should be fun.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
No. I admitted to having fallen in love in an earlier year though, which is nearly as embarrassing, so that should count.
23. How many one night stands?
None.
24. What was your favourite TV programme?
I didn't have one.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, so that's good.
26. What was the best book you read?
The Alchemist.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Vienna Teng, although now that I have her CD, I find that I disagree with her a lot - she has an amazing voice though, and beautiful lyrics, even if I don't think they're true.
28. What did you want and get?
Resolution of a lot of inner conflicts.
29. What did you want and not get?
A number of things that I didn't need and am likely better off without. (Sour grapes... ;-P)
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Pirates of the Caribbean. Which is not the same as the best film I saw this year, which was Return of the King.
31. What did you do on your birthday?
Went out for wings and beer with the Trinity.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More vacation days.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
About like it always is, which is to say that it included a lot of jeans and t-shirts with clever things on them.
34. What kept you sane?
My chosen family, especially
triadruid, who was kind enough to play therapist for me on far too many occasions.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Johnny Depp. Mmmmm.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
War in Iraq, the RAVE act sneaking into legislation, the rumor of PATRIOT-II, the general 1984ification of the United States... it's hard to pick just one, really.
37. Who did you miss?
Dan, Khristoff, Davin and Rynne... I will always miss my brothers. :(
38. Who was the best new person you met?
zylch, I think. I met a lot of really fabulous people this year though - I'm lucky in that.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
When you're having the first impulse to invite the 18 year old to go to bed with you, *that* is the time to stop drinking and leave the party.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I think I need a whole song for this one:
"I burned my bridges, I'm free at last
All my chains are in the past,
The new life starts here.
The day is wide open, the sky is blue
The world is a miracle, and so are you
The new life starts here.
My papers arrived, stamped and complete
All previous dispatches are obsolete,
The new life starts here.
I can see my way so clear
Rejoice, for the new life starts here.
There's a war in the Gulf, but it ain't in my head
I've just declared a state of peace instead.
The new life starts here.
Users, abusers, banging at my door,
I'm not fighting with them anymore,
The new life starts here.
Generals, Presidents, how do you do?
I can make it with or without you,
The new life starts here.
I can see my way so clear
Rejoice, for the new life starts here.
Are you under the Mercy, are you under attack?
Are you going forward, or are you looking back?
The new life starts here.
Are you coming to grips, are you coming apart?
Are you listening to fear, or to your heart?
The new life starts here.
Are you building heaven, are you building hell?
When that great day comes, will you be able to tell?
The new life starts here.
Citizen, criminal, child, woman or man
The keys to the Kingdom are in your own hands.
The new life starts here.
Mock the devils, make them sweat
They haven't won the battle yet.
The new life starts here.
I can see my way so clear
Rejoice, for the new life starts here."
