Conform/Consume

This post is all about the linking. And the buying. And the thinking.
First off, politics:
Via [livejournal.com profile] next_bold_move, I found a clever little widget that matches your stand on political issues with stands avowed by various candidates for the presidency in 2008. My top match was, surprisingly, a guy I didn't know was running, former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel. That link goes to his bio and position statements, which are in a .pdf (be advised). Oddly enough, when I used the widget this morning, this fellow was at the top of the list for 'most often top matched' by users of the site. He's pretty progressive, so I wonder if that means that the widget link was circulated mostly in progressive forums, or if there really is a much larger percentage of progressives in the population than I usually suspect.

Second, capitalism.
- Dover Books has a bargain books section that is extremely compelling to me. I'm trying to hold off from buying 10-15 books at the moment. We're only talking about $40-50 worth of books, but bookshelf space is at a premium at EHQ...
- A friend in Oregon is going through some tough times (sudden departure on the part of her partner) and facing some financial woes. She is a consultant for one of those sex-toy party companies, and earns commission on purchases from parties and over the interwebs. My course of action is clear in this matter, I think. ;) (And if you were thinking, "Oh crap, I'm out of lube" or something on that order, please consider buying from this lovely lady, okay?)
- The Red Jak energy drink that is amber is not the same as the Red Jak energy drink that is red. They are made by different companies, just... have the same name, and taste very similar. Who knew?
- In other energy drink news, Bawls Sugar-Free tastes like Nerds candy dipped in caffeine. Mr. Yuck-face applies. [livejournal.com profile] lexpendragon is welcome to the entire world's supply of the stuff.

Poor, poor, pitiful me.

I need to do some sort of craft show/event/etc. very soon -- I have way too much finished jewelry on hand, and not enough disposable income to buy nifty new components.

Anybody want to buy some shiny things?

On the other hand

Items accomplished over the weekend:
* Booked room for Texas trip this weekend.
* Made 8-9 new jewelry pieces on Saturday, between "waiting for [livejournal.com profile] triadruid to get home and [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants to get up from napping" time, "craft and movie" time at [livejournal.com profile] capriciouslass' place, and "waiting for [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn to get back from picking up [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare at the airport" time. I like most of these pieces, which probably means they'll never sell, but hey. Every once in a while, I should get to make pieces I like.
* Managed Wild Hare's Beltane rite on Friday.
* Washed laundry.

... Yeah, that's about it. But this weekend, we get to go to Dallas, which is pretty exciting because it's not Kansas City, and teach EiR, which is pretty exciting because EiR is fun, and do the Sunday service at PVUUC, which is pretty exciting because that means that [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and I will have then shared a pulpit with Randy Milholland, of Something Positive fame. (They have also had a lot of other folks come in to do their service, but he strikes me as the least likely, so therefore will represent the genre.)

We will try to focus on that, and not think about the fact that before we can road-trip, I have to do a job fair on Thursday. Blech.

Ahem shinies.

I don't know if I mentioned or not, but [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and I will have a booth in the art and craft show at North KC's Snake Saturday, this Saturday, 3/10. If you have a desire in your heart to own some of Kittenpants' art or lovely jewelry made by me, you might drop by.

Also, seriously, I need to break into the newage* jewelry market. I'm working too hard.

*rhymes with sewage. There is a reason for this.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled livejournal

For this commercial message: Buy pictures of naked women, help a woman with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Seriously. The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] ysabel is Miss May. And, you know, who doesn't like cheesecake for charity?

(Also, this icon cracks me up for no good reason every time I use it.)

Electioneering

Note to KC MO folks planning to vote in today's elections:

1) Regarding the term limit questions on the ballot, the current status is that these folks are limited to two terms. That wasn't really clear from reading the wording of the term limit questions (one of which would increase the limit to three consecutive terms, the other of which would abolish term limits altogether).

2) The question on petitions to recall is asking to make the rules on petitioning more strict. The wording on the ballot makes it unclear whether or not folks in Kansas City currently have the right to petition for a recall at all. Apparently, we do.

3) I have no idea what the question on repealing the 20 articles of the charter to replace them with 13 articles means, either.

Also, here's the obligatory "Vote, you bastards!".

Boobies!

Bracelets for boobies! I'm selling shiny beaded bracelets to help support [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare's efforts in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I'm not gonna be able to walk the thing, but I'm willing to do what I can. So here's the deal: Shiny bracelet (some appropriately pink, some not pink, but tagged with a little pink ribbon, so as you know what you bought it for), $20 (plus shipping if I'm not going to see you to give it to you) donation. If you're going to be where I am any time in the next few weeks, ask to see my shinies - I imagine I'll be carrying them around.

If you would like to support the cause, and want a bracelet made in a specific color/combination, comment here, and I will make one to suit you for a donation of $30.

The money goes to fund breast cancer research and support.

Or, if you don't want a damned bracelet, but you want to support [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare and All Breasts Everywhere, you can donate directly here. Any questions?

The alchemy portion of this entry, not nearly as important as the fundraising portion, has been relocated. If you're wondering why people are talking about alchemy under my boobies post, they are actually responding to this paragraph about alchemy on Marketplace.

Couldn't hurt, might help

In a probably futile effort to offset some of the recent unexpected costs in life, I'm going to try and actually sell some jewelry. Currently I have photos of a couple of saleable pieces on my DeviantArt account. I imagine there will be more there (and here) later today, as I finally get off my bum and post them.

Also, I do custom beadwork, if anyone is interested in that sort of thing. Drop me a note if you're interested in any of that stuff, eh?

Mmm... modular economics.
