I moved and updated my renter's insurance information; somehow this failed to induce them to transfer over my auto insurance, and I missed the 'your coverage is going to DIE' message, since I was in full-auto pay/renewal.

Nearly a year later I went in to move again, and they said my automobile insurance was lapsed. Because it was State Farm's policy to jack the rates on people who lapse and come back, I had to pay like 30% more for 6 months. I argued that it was their fault for not updating me; the agent argued it was their fault for not updating me; the office manager argued it was their fault for not updating me; the home office in Florida argued it was their fault for not updating me; but the underwriter refused to make an exception.

Bastardy. Of course, my higher rate for 6 months was still lower than my missed costs for 11 months, but goddendamn... good thing I didn't get into any accidents!

And I happen to think it's totally wrong that USAA's Notice of [Impending] Cancellation Due to Nonpayment is such a pretty shade of pink.
