You are able to keep things clean. (Well, the car was Eric's fault ;-) So brewing beer should be easy enough for you.
Brewing beer takes less effort than making an Ashiko, and you do not have to wake up before the crack of noon to do it.
Get malt & yeast from B&B, heat up water/malt mixture, let it cool, (this pasteurizes it) add yeast, put into bucket/bottle with a simple airlock. (starts fermentation) wait a few days. (Kreb's Cycle - Sugar to Alcohol, Botany 101) Drink flat, or mix a little sugar in and bottle for a week.
You can make 3 cases of any ale for about $13-$15. Whee!
