Algorithm for determining grade-level appropriateness of reading material. It looks at number of words per sentence, I think number of clauses per sentence, and number of large words vs. small words. A score of 8 means that an 8th grader should be able to read it easily. If I recall correctly from my intro to news writing and reporting course, the average newspaper article in the US gets a Flesch-Kincaid score of soemwhere between 5 and 6, indicating that most news material should be accessible to a sixth grader.
