I have nothing interesting to say today, so here's a gratuitous sloth:

I hope you have enjoyed this gratuitous sloth break.

EDIT: The comment thread now contains a frank discussion about socks, three otters, a wombat sleeping in a knit cap, and a monkey doing the sort of contortionist act that many people probably wish they could do.

Also, if you ever wanted your face on an Old-West style WANTED poster, I can do that for you. I've spent the last day and a half doing it for the agency, and I think I have it down to an art now. *grumble*

I saw one while Raven was watching whatever the nature channel she watches was on.

  1. The thing was DAMN cute
  2. They have claws.
  3. For moving at the speed of a UPS employee on Quaaludes, the thing manages to have it's claw where you don't want it surprisingly easily.
Martial artists could learn a thing or two.

Do you think your socks should match? This a personal "you" not the all-ecompasing "you" that the English language doesn't bother to differentiate between.
From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
Hrm... it's important to me that my socks should either be from the same pair or extremely suited to one another. It's not so much important to me that they match anything else I happen to be wearing. I mean, I try to sort of hit "one color that is the same as something else in the outfit", but that's about as good as it gets.
From: [identity profile] lilia-blackbear.livejournal.com
Yeah, I meant match each other. And in match, I meant, should they be the same sock, only there are the two of them instead of one. Same texture, same style, but different colors, or do you think they should be the same exact sock for both feet?
From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
Generally, like I say, I want my socks to be the same sock. The exception to this tendency is that I used to have a pair of socks in which one sock was red with a black design, and the other was black with the same design in red, and I will occasionally mix pairs of the extremely large striped socks of the variety that they sell at Faire, so that one leg is red and black and the other is purple and green or something. Because, really, you're wearing giant striped socks. You're already at ridiculous, so you might as well be over the top.

I have also seen socks sold in threes which are sort of random-knit socks, all three being made with the same colors, but in different combinations and patterns, and I would wear those, except that they are all made in bright colors, which I don't wear in any context. When they start selling three-pack crazy socks in selections of black, white, grey, red, dark green, brown, and burgundy, I'm so there.

The Sloth that we have at RenFaire is a lot prettier, but I must admit that one would not know that she was menat to be sloth unless you knew that already.

Which is pretty typical of our RenFaire, actually, inasmuch as we also have a Romeo And Juliet who give no indication that they are supposed to be Romeo and Juliet, so the schtick would be utterly lost on Paulie Patron.

If you have the wanted poster down to a science, share with the rest of the class. I'm guessing Photoshop?

You have a Sloth? I didn't know that. Of course, I didn't know you had a Romeo and Juliet, either. I am aware that you have an Evil, and a Toy, and a Troll, some Fops, some Whores, and a Royal Court. Everything else is beyond me. There were also some people who were extremely obnoxiously dressed that I saw posing for pictures, but I couldn't tell if they were performers or patrons.

GIMP, actually. There are a lot of torn paper edges (http://pstogimpbrushes.deviantart.com/art/pfefferminzchen-s-torn-paper-32559049), grunge brushes (http://project-gimpbc.deviantart.com/art/Grunge-Brushes-9-by-KeReN-R-32864723), and scratches (http://lifebtb.deviantart.com/art/GIMP-Scratchies-34170077) involved. :)

Sometimes it's difficult to tell; the best playtrons tend to be former rennies, so the only real way to tell is if they are carrying paper/plastic or are smoking. Then there are the ones who have most of the outfit but then are wearing tennis shoes. (*ugh*) And then there are the Star Trek uniforms or the Off-The-Rack-From-The-Halloween-Store polyester black capes.

Oh, and before I forget, we have four of the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Sloth, Gluttony, and Pride. And if you don't know who they are, you are not likely to pick them out; there are clues in teh outfits, but to really notice those clues will require spending a lot more time around them than one is probably willing.

And it would be more helpfuller if say, there were seven of them. Traveling together. We have learned this from DragonCon. It is all well and good to have a group costume, but nobody gets it when you're away from your group :)

Ren Faire closes at 7 pm. People are usually on site later than that, and if you want in at the end of the day without paying the doorman I'd come after 6:30. The folks at the gate are good about that.

Be happy, healthy and whole!
