I've been thinking about my birthday this year -- I will be thirty, so it seems quite reasonable to have a ludicrous party. (Yes, I know, it *always* seems reasonable to me to have a ludicrous party. But anyway.)

So I'm thinking it's going to be a Time Travelers' Convention. Costumes required, must be vintage, historical, scientific, or futuristic. I want to do some psychogeography while it's light out -- throw a dart at the city map (or choose an area) and we all go there, and wander around with cameras and notebooks to record impressions. When we're done playing with that, I think we should go to dinner somewhere dark and publike (doesn't have to be McCoys -- we always go there, and it's my favorite, but we could go somewhere new and exciting). [I was also thinking it might be fun to have dinner at someone's house and do a potluck of food from various historical periods, but that seems like a lot of work.] And then, we go somewhere friendly for cake (by god, there will be cake) and further scientific inquiry and/or entertainment delights of the early 21st century, especially its amazing variety of alcoholic beverages unknown in other times.

Does that sound like fun to anybody else? Anybody have thematically appropriate ideas for other fun we could have? Does anyone know where one can get absinthe, a tesla coil, or victorian dancing girls? Was that my outside voice?

What day are you thinking, at this point? Actually the 20th?

Saturday the 18th doesn't look bad on our calendar. And then you have a day and a half to do anything else you want done before you actually turn 30, if you miss it that night.

Does anyone know where one can get absinthe

Actually, I do. Unfortunately it's through a friend of a friend in Eastern Europe, so the logistics of getting it to Kansas City are a bit difficult.

Nah, Monday is no good for this. I'm thinking the 25th. That will allow us to still go to Tara on the 18th if we're so inclined.

Yeah, that was my first thought, too, but [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants wants to go to Fest of Tara that day, which also sounds like fun.

If it's going to be a Time Travelers' Convention anyway, perhaps you could hold it at some point in the future when I have outlived my ignominy.

Well, it was worth a shot.

Hmm. 25th is right before your ritual on the 26th, though.

The 18th looks double-booked during the day with art lessons (and the 17th with Games Night), but we can talk about that when we get home. And I'm not sure I can take a third weekend gone, out of four... not and get anything done for D*Con.

Yeah, I figured I'd have to negotiate for the day, which is why the post didn't have a date in it. I know better than to think that I can just schedule something by fiat.

I am willing to entertain other proposals, certainly.

Another event to break out my ol' Doc Brown costume.

Er, or maybe not.

I know.

You know how I know?

I know because what we will be doing on my actual birthday is going to a Social Justice Committee meeting. Not festive!

Sounds like fun! My 25th is actually a little better than the 18th, as I don't have kids then.

I've been pondering what kind of festivities I wanted for my own 30th just over 2 weeks after yours. Totally no clue yet.

That actually sounds like a helluva lot of fun but dammit, August is too damned booked. My bachelorette party is here in Tulsa the 18th and the weekend after that is, well, the weekend before the wedding and probably a Queen's Gambit rehearsal weekend with our new whistler/vocalist.

But it's a damned good idea anyway...and we even have Victorian costumes! ...and Shindig costumes. That's what happens when you're marrying a costumer!

Yeah, August is a little crazy for us, too. I'm considering pulling an [livejournal.com profile] iron_clad next year and declaring my birthday to be at some other time of the year. Wish we could be around for your wedding -- there will be pictures, yes?

That sounds SO fun!

You can buy watered down absinthe legally at any liquor store (at least in Oregon..)

I think in the interest of time travel you should have your guests write where they would like to go eat on a piece of paper, stick them all on the wall and blind folded, you throw a dart and viola! dinner!
