Do any of you lot use last.fm? Does anybody subscribe? Is it worth it?

I use it occasionally... haven't subscribed. It's decent... kinda like Pandora, but with a community aspect to it.

I've had more headaches with it than with free itunes. Good variety of songs but all in all not worth the hassles of is it going to work today and if so how long.

The most practical use for it I've found is their new events system. I watch the recommended events RSS feed, and find out when bands I've been listening to are playing nearby.

The statistics can be interesting, though not terribly useful.

So far actually listening to their streams has been somewhat disappointing unless I start with a particular artist, Pandora style.

Too bad subscribing wouldn't result in a faster connection to London.

oh yeah....

It's also nice to see the mix of music that others listen to, and see who else listens to the same obscure stuff you do. OTOH it's depressing to see all the people who don't listen to anything but mainstream stuff.

Last.fm has an interesting opinion on that.

Barring the worries and wars over net radio royalty fees...

Personally, I really enjoy what I get from Live365. Their stations are all run by listeners, you can find something on darn near any genre or mix thereof, and if you decide to join the fun, you can set up your own broadcast either live or pre-playlisted.

You can get a lot of stations for free, turn off commercials with payment. If you want to see the kind of weird shit I listen to, give me a buzz and I'll send you some of my presets.

As you probably know, I love it. I haven't yet subscribed but I intend to try it eventually.
