Three things from around the flist this week:

1. Are you tone-deaf?. [livejournal.com profile] infintysquared passes along this opportunity to test out of future recruitment attempts for the church choir (or this opportunity to engage in, as he puts it, some musical dick-waving). I tested out at above 90%, which is not a surprise. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid tested out in the normal range (low 70s, I think), despite what he may tell you about his ears, brain, or singing ability.

2. The Best Thing Ever Project, noticed by [livejournal.com profile] digibri, asks users to choose between two options to determine the best thing ever. It's a fine way to waste a whole lot more time than one might think. There used to be a site called whatsbetter.com that did a very similar thing, and that Dan The Abbot Of Lesbians and I used to discuss endlessly over IM during interminable afternoons at work, but that site has passed. I'm all nostalgic all of a sudden, but this is a worthy substitute.

3. From [livejournal.com profile] rougewench,

Which Bond Girl Are You?

You are Miss Moneypenny -- efficient and indespensible. You're a true survivor. You've seen them come and go...bad guys, girlfriends, supervisors, assistants, but when it comes right down to it, you're the one woman Bond can't live without.

The results here should be surprising to no one.

I remeber Howard Stern playing a game like that years ago... which would you rather do if your life depended on it...

Barbra Bush or Janet Reno?

Marget Thatcher or Bea Arthur?

Rosanne or RuPaul?

Also, I think the term we were looking for this morning was "Ddraig Cymreig".

69.4%, border between "low-normal" and "normal". I expect this is at least partially to do with my absolutely shite short-term memory—the phrases were so long! (There have been comments from both of my voice teachers about how good I was from the beginning at matching pitch to what they played on the piano, but then I can't tune an instrument to save my life, so maybe my pitch perception is a bit crap. Not good for someone trying to get into this whole music thing, no.)

And then I got Kara Milovy for the Bond girl thing. I don't even know which movie she's from, so I have no idea how thing this is.

Also, when I took the test last night (while you were messing with pie, perhaps?) I got a 78% ranking. I *think* that most of the ones I missed were because of differences at the *beginning* of a phrase. I can totally catch stuff in the middle or at the end, but if it's the first note? I have no idea. Also, I suspect some of my other botches were differences in complex chords. Melody I can track, but harmony is much harder for me to follow.

Hah!

I scored as one of my favorite Bond Girls (except for Moneypenny). I still find it hard to believe that Moneypenny never went for Bond like everyone else (of the frmale persuasion [OK, except for M, of course])did. It might even suggest that Moneypenny's actually...a MAN. Sure, I'd rather not believe it, but her restraint *is* very odd among the women in Bond's life.

Which Bond Girl Are You?

You are Octopussy -- beautiful and successful. You've taken your sparkling personality, management skills, and eye for talent and built a thriving business. Sure, you cut a few bureaucratic corners here and there to increase profit margins, but you look out for your people and at the end of a long, hard day you're all woman and then some.

Am I the only one that couldn't hear a lot of the music phrases on the other test? I still nabbed a 72.2%, but I suspect a lot of that was luck.

94.4%. And the two I missed were both ones where the harmony was subtly different and the melody was the same, and both of them I decided I was being too paranoid because the other ones were so obviously different.
