Last night, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were once again bewailing the steaming pile of reconstituted monkey poo that was the new version of The Omen. Wouldn't it have been better, we thought, if we could have gotten the film adaptation of Gaiman and Pratchett's Good Omens as the big 6/6/06 release?

Inevitably, this led to an extensive discussion of who we'd want to cast in such a film, and who we'd like to have at the helm, and so on. And we thought some of our friends might have some opinions on the matter as well, so here we are. Clicky on the cut to see our picks. Feel free to contribute, comment, contest, deride, fill in the blanks, or whatever makes you happy. The general sort of guidelines for fantasy casting, as played at EHQ are as follows: 1) actors don't have to currently be the right age for the part (adding "ten years ago" or "in about five years" is perfectly fair); 2) actors don't have to be alive, necessarily; 3) actors don't have to be actors by trade, but they do have to be someone that everyone in the game is familiar with (other celebrities not in the acting business, politicians, and your mom are all fair game).

Our picks for Good Omens (two names next to a role means that E3 were undecided):

Aziraphale (intelligent, English, and gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide): David Hyde Pierce

I don't know which role she oughta have, but I'm faily certain Frances MacDormand would be splended. Even if I've perhaps misspelled her name.

Also, if there's someplace for Jason Statham to have his shirt off, I think that would be sooper.

(gonna go take my hormones for a bit of a walk now...)

I think you have some fabulous choices thus far... especially the castings of Johnny Depp, Ving Rhames, Robin Williams, Judi Densch, and Alan Rickman. I would pay to see them five in a movie together no matter what it was... to have it be Good Omens is just a nice garlicy butter sauce for the meal.

Other suggestions:
Pepper -- Dakota Fanning just because she is the child actress in everything I can think of lately.
Sister Mary Loquacios -- Natalie Portman, just because after seeing Closer, I am convinced she can play any role available to a woman.

And Madmae Tracey... I realize you said age is not necessarily an issue and I think she would have been a good choice 20 years ago, have you seen Uma Thurman take up the Mel Brooks co-star woman part in The Producers? I like to think of her as whooping martial ass in ridiculous amounts of blood, but she can completely play this part.

Oh, and the "she" I am first referring to is Teri Garr if there is any confusion.

Just as a note, "angelina jolie redhead" is NOT the sort of thing you want to Google Image search for at work.

Regardless, I still think she'd be a pretty good War.

I just started reading it...

but it occurred to me that there should be roles for Gaiman & Pratchett. Possibly those of God and Satan?
