This morning, I accidentally pushed the radio over to 101.5 again. Usually, they're off my list in the morning because their morning show crew can't seem to go two minutes without gay-bashing. But sometime in between the last time I bitched about the gay-bashing and today, they got a new, syndicated morning show. So I thought, well, I'll give them a chance, and see. Maybe this one will be better.

And lo, in the entire time I was listening, they didn't disparage anybody for being gay. They just went on at length on the proposition that the world would be a much better place if there were no women on the planet.

Which I suppose could be taken as an endorsement of homosexuality, but still. Bigotry first thing in the morning is a little much for me.

Pretty much every other morning show in KC sucks ass, but at least they're decently entertaining. And, hell, now that Adam "I don't fucking care about anything but making smartass comments" Corolla isn't on Loveline anymore, it's even tolerable!

96.5 is pretty much the only station that airs in my car.

I used to listen to the Buzz but I couldn't stand Lazlo (however you spell it).

I listen to 98.9 the Rock. Johnny Dare in the AM w/ prudish Carrie Coogan.

If they suck, I put in a CD and call it good.

I do often listen to the Buzz in the morning -- right up until people call in, or they call somebody. At that point, I've learned that the stupidity factor is going to go way up, and it's better just to change the channel preemptively.

Of course, that's true of any station, I think.

I just don't listen to morning radio chatter. I start with Jack (105), but when they switch to commercials I surf until I find music. If music is unobtainable, there's always CD's. I haven't found a morning show in recent years that I want to waste my listening time on.

Yeah, Lazlo is annoying, but I work midnight to 8, so I get Loveline on the way in and the morning show on the way home. No Lazlo for me! :)

Well there you go. I used to watch Loveline on TV. I never could get into it...

I'm not sure what radio station we had on this morning, because I couldn't hear it very well over the fans. But from what I could tell, they were having an in-depth discussion about farmers, alcohol, and sheep. That's the point at which I started muttering "O splendor of sunburst..."

"the world would be a much better place if there were no women on the planet. "

mmm.. going to be a bit empty, as planets go, in a generation or so, sans the female half of the population.

Ugh; I tried them the other day, and found them no improvement. Sure we got rid of the gay-bashing "Fox Home Team" folks, but now it's just a nationally syndicated show, with NPR-style cuts for local weather and traffic.

Plus, they weren't funny. Mostly, I'm cycling for music in the morning these days, or taking a tape with me. I found Sepultura to work better than caffeine the other day... Arise!

Neither bigotry nor the quality of being a morning show host has ever been associated much with the long-term planning, I'm thinking. :)

I miss the folks they had before the "Home Team" (who were imported from Atlanta, and not in fact local at all, which was another strike against them in my book -- why pretend they're local if they're not?). Randy, Terri and Rick. They weren't funny either, but at least they weren't assholes. Of course, that's probably why they didn't last.

And Afentra in the morning, not Lazlo.

I especially hate the ones where they bust somebody for being an asshole on the air. I just don't find that funny.

Johnny Dare had a news story about a guy getting busted for having sex with a lamb... they took AC/DC Dirty Deeds and made it, "Dirty deeds, done with sheep." It was hillarious!

Not that I'm above telling someone they're being an asshole, but I just don't think that's entertainment, particularly.

Yeah I don't bother with morning shows on the way in; it's bad enough having to listen to Lex and Terry in the morning once I'm at work, but my time in the car is my time. I surf for music, or pop in a CD. I've never really understood the point of a morning radio show, anyway, but that probably just means it's not my cup of tea. In fact, no matter what the time of day, I'll change the station if there's any kind of talking other than news, because it's like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Yeah, I know what you mean, with the personal exception of NPR (which isn't always news, but is usually at least informative, interesting, and grammatically correct).

I find it amusing how my fingers twitch for the radio once they hit the "Don't go away! We'll be right back with more music in two minutes or less!" spiel. Shouldn't have warned me, kids...

Oh I am right there with you, man. I'm an obsessive flipper when I get even a *hint* of commercials. Same way with the t.v. Commercials = nails on a chalkboard, for me.

And I also don't classify NPR as talk radio. Huh. I actually *like* NPR...their news programs(especially All Things Considered), *love* Car Talk and Prairie Home Companion. Now *that's* entertainment.
