Maybe it's just me, but the last few days have seemed to stretch on for far longer than the usual 24-hour span allotted them. Maybe it's just the fact that we seem to have crammed more activity into the day than seems reasonable. That could be it.

Friday, there was gaming at Casa de Martinii. In that game, I'm a poorly socialized elven sorceror with a preoccupation with birds and a mental age of about 12. This is fun, because it allows me to drink while gaming without my play suffering any at all. This is also fun because it allows me to be stupid and impulsive, rather than constantly worrying about whether or not some action I'm contemplating is the right thing to do in the situation. This somehow has translated into a lot more experience points for me for "doing clever character things", so that can't be bad. Also, the Martinii are a damned hospitable lot. R. even shared a glass of Barenjager with me, which made my evening even more enjoyable. Also, he's into European prog-rock, and had some Polish band on, which had a name that involved River-something, and which was fantastic. Riverside, possibly?

Anyway. That ran very late on Friday, and it came to pass that from 3:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. was not nearly long enough to sleep properly, but alas, meetings wait for no man. We dragged out to the Gaia business meeting, even though I protested vigorously. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants had no sympathy for me, none, I tell you! We neglected to bring [livejournal.com profile] opaljax and [livejournal.com profile] orcjohn's stuff to the meeting, so, guys, we still have stuff for you, and if you will let me know when we might next see each other, I will bring it for you. We had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] orcjohn at Chartroose Caboose (woo!), where we cleared the booths around us by embarking on a frank attempt to, between the four of us, name all Ten Commandments (we failed -- the one we couldn't come up with was the one about taking the Lord's name in vain, which we thought of, but didn't think it was a Commandment) and determine which of us at the table was or was not an adulterer (we still don't know, but are willing to take input on the subject). Quoth [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, "Not our trad. We're not responsible for knowing it".

Following that, we bundled off to TCP for an afternoon of Wheel of Time gaming, which is somehow even geekier than plain old garden variety Dungeons and Dragons. Still, good times. Of course, everyone enjoyed watching the DM make [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris his bitch. :) [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I engaged in the opening stages of some mutual attempts at bitch-making, but so far it hasn't amounted to much. Here, I'm playing a bored merchant boy who's turned to a life of thievery and smuggling, who is currently in the company of the rest of the party while dressed as a woman and posing as a merchant. In the next session, I have the opportunity to play him as a man playing a woman playing a man, if I'm clever and quick enough, so that should be fun.

We broke off from that to finish the holiday shopping, which took [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and me to Toys 'R' Us (Note: [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants does not indulge in either gaming or shopping, so her Saturday was mostly of the quiet at home variety). At some point here, in our quest to buy toys for my cousin's little girl, a beautiful moment occurred in which he said to me (while grabbing my ass), "I have to take a moment to feel you up here in the children's store, and remind you that I'm shooting blanks..." There was some more on-the-spot celebratory dancing.

Sunday, there was sleeping in, followed by two attempts at biscuits and gravy (the first was foiled by some Elder Sausage, which was summarily eaten by the Chaos Hound). Gaia had Yule, which was very nice, in a musical sort of way. We survived the potluck, exchanged some gifts, and wandered off to see Chronicles of Narnia, which was quite good. I discovered that although I had read the books several times as a kid, I retained almost nothing, so I got to experience the film more or less tabula rasa. This was nice because it freed me from expectations, and also allowed me a chance to look for Christian allegory and other sorts of allegory which might have been available to people who wanted to see that sort of thing. I think I could make a reasonable case that this film was actually full of Wiccan symbolism and write a little essay about it if I were so inclined, but everyone's probably fortunate that I'm not so inclined. Also, Mr. Tumnus is adorable.

because I'm a pedant and a show-off

Ten commandments, in no particular order:

I am the LORD your GOD, and you shall have no God before me.
Make no graven image
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Shalt not take the name of the LORD in vain
Shalt not steal
Honor thy mother and thy father
Shalt not commit adultery
Shalt not kill
Shalt not bear false witness
shalt not covet thy neighbor's ass, nor his wife, nor his wife's ass

As for adultery, I'm sure that everyone reading this post has commited adultery in his/her heart, and is therefore just as guilty as someone who actually does the act, per Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew (chapter 7, I think, just after the Sermon on the Mount).

On the bright side, I seem to be forgetting the Episcopal Holy Eucharist Rite II (page 355 of the prayer book), so that's a start.

time outside of time

For what it's worth, this weekend seemed longer than natural to me too, but I'm grateful it wasn't one of those weekends that wouldn't end, but in a horrible way.

From about 5 p.m. Friday until midnight last night, time seemed to expand wondrously...giving me more peace and enjoyment than I've had in a weekend in a very, very long time. Household matters were mostly under control, plenty of relaxing time with friends, kids sleeping through the night, and upbeat time with husband. Yay.

Oh, we totally remembered the one about coveting your neighbor's ass. That one's easy :)

As for the adultery, the question at hand was more like, if I'm not married, and I sleep with someone who is, who's the adulterer, them or me? Or both?

So I guess your all as guilty as me then, woot! Or am I clear in that respect since I'm not the one that's married.

adulterous character

First, I love your concept of the elven sorceror character. Maybe I get bored by role playing because I'm just making the wrong type of character....

Second, according to m-w.com, any participant in sex between a married person and not-their-spouse is guilty of adultery, but apparently [livejournal.com profile] triadruid is especially an adulterer.

That's got to be one that's most fun to break, at least when all appropriate consent is in order.

Third, I for one want to hear about the Wiccan symbolism in Narnia. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] nontacitare would also be interested.

I got bored of the knight-in-shining-armor character almost immediately. I like 'em quirky. The other current characters I have are, in no particular order: The crossdressing theif from Wheel of Time, a dwarven undead hunter paladin whose holy order castrates its members and requires them to give up their names (he's a lot of fun, and has a stupid faux-Eastern European accent and a pony called Viktor, who he suspects at least one of the other party members of wanting to bugger), and a gnome rogue/wizard with a geas to collect information, a penchant for explosives and a pony she can't at all explain and is vaguely embarrassed by.

Secondly, is that all it takes to be especially something? Geez. I've got the wrong bits for everything fun. And probably, yeah. I mean, coveting is fun for a little bit, but adultery is entertaining for hours.

Thirdly, I might have to write it then :)

I wanna hear your case for Wiccan symbolism in Narnia! Please? :)
