featherynscale: a monster holding an open book (book monster)
This is the best story I have ever heard regarding the motivation for writing a book. The author in question is Jim Butcher, and the story comes from [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning, who attended a book signing by Mr. Butcher last night:

The Codex Alera books were actually written on a bet in a heated internet discussion. The person he was arguing with dared him to write a good book about a bad idea, and he said, "No, I'll write a good book about TWO bad ideas". The ones that he was given were: a Lost Legion of Rome and Pokemon.

I have never had any great desire to read Codex Alera, but I do now.

The Gaia Spring Bazaar has been canceled.

That means I now have a free day next Saturday! And a lot of free time in between now and next Saturday that I was probably going to spend taking fliers around, calling on vendors, baking kitchen-witch goodies and prepping my stuff to sell. I'm pretty sure this will just mean that someone else will schedule some sort of meeting on Saturday now, but I mean to resist that as much as possible.

It also means that the vast amount of jewelry and stuff that I made with hopes of selling it at Sacred Fire (at which the organizers forgot I was a vendor, so there was no space for me) and Spring Bazaar (now not happening), and Heartland Pagan Festival (not going, too hot) is just going to sit around, overflowing its container, until fall. I need to a) find some other events to do or b) do some "trunk shows" or c) both. *sigh*

While I'm posting other people's content, I thought I'd toss this up here. This comes out of this week's Free Will Astrology e-mail newsletter thingie. I enjoy the hell out of FWA, not because I'm all that excited about astrology (though I am a Leo, and I do occasionally use astrology as an excuse to be attention-seeking or proud), but because it often prompts me to think about things that are inspiring or encouraging. Frankly, I can use all the inspiration and encouragement I can get right about now, because children, I am **tired**.

So anyway, below the cut is a list of twenty questions from Rob Brezny. Some of them are interesting to me. Some are not. I'm planning on answering the interesting ones, and leaving the other ones alone. I thought I'd drop the whole list up here in case the questions might be interesting to somebody else. The words below the cut are all Brezny's, not mine.
On to the questions! )
