We spent the weekend in our usual way, which is to say that we did far too many things in far too short a stretch of time. Ah, well. Friday night, [livejournal.com profile] auraseer came into town to visit [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and we all went out to Gaia Games Night and played a lot of Zendo and got busted with booze by the minister of the church we rent from. Ah, well. I think our lease says we can have alcohol in the building. If not, I expect we'll hear about it.

Saturday, we went to Ren Fest and saw ... everyone in the world. :) We also saw the Jolly Rogers doing a dramatic adaptation of 'The Little Mermaid', which was screamingly funny. At one point, [livejournal.com profile] mesniu, who is the evil villainous sea hag (complete with tentacles) does this bit about the mermaid trading her voice for legs, and he's like, "Okay, I'm gonna make a special gesture and it takes your voice away -- this is high-level magic stuff. Okay, you ready? Got your middle pillar all aligned?", and then he whacks the mermaid in the throat. High comedy. We were rolling in the effing aisles. I also picked up a small bag of assorted animal bones for the fell purpose of making a Jagermonster costume for DragonCon. *costuming glee*

Later, we saw S.J. Tucker play a show, which was also screamingly funny, and very impressive. I picked up a t-shirt from her, which reads "Lost Girls Pirate Academy", and which has already proved to be an excellent investment in the practice of bringing the weird to the people. :)

For lo, I wore it yesterday, and at the grocery store, the cashier (in her 60s) read it, and said, "Hey! I want to be in the Lost Girls Pirate Academy! Can I do that?". There was a great moment of weird cheer, because it's never too late to decide not to be a grownup, yes? Which reminds me, soon it will be cool enough for the Pirate v. Ninja Olympics, which will be the subject of another post.

Tonight, EHQ is hosting the Mabon ritual for Wild Hare Protogrove. This is a public ritual, so if you are local and have an interest in ADF-style ritual, you're welcome to attend.

Autumn Equinox is a sort of odd holiday for me, particularly in this context, because there really isn't a lot of historical background for things that were directly related to the holiday. That's fine when I'm working on my own or with Gaia Community, because if there's something that I don't have any trouble doing, it's making things up, but Wild Hare is a little different. So, in this ritual, we're sort of celebrating the lack of context, as well as working the other end of some work we've done earlier in the year.

See, ADF works within an Indo-European cosmology, and makes a lot of offerings and agreements with various gods, spirits, ancestors and whatnot. All of which is good times. In the Spring, we did a ritual that was about connecting with Proto-Indo-European powers, which was also good times. So now, in the Fall, we're working the other end of the timeline. See, some of us have noticed that we don't exactly live in Europe anymore, and we've got generations of ancestors who didn't, either, but we sort of think that they might have brought some IE religious concepts over on the boats with them. Maybe. So in tonight's ritual, we're making a connection with the gods they built or contacted or found when they got here. We hope that this, too will be good times.

If this sounds fun/interesting/useful to you, we hope you'll join us. EHQ, 7 p.m. gathering, 7:30 ritual. ADF ritual style includes a place for people to make offerings to just about anybody, so if you have a deity or power you'd like to make an offering to, please bring your offering with you. Offerings do not have to be 'things'. :)
