Fun!

I had a dream last night in which I was involved in a fortress/siege sort of game, possibly in the SCA. My team was constructing a fortress out of hay bales to defend against another team, who were the invaders. This was more fun than seems reasonable. I don't mind the 'beating people with sticks/getting beaten with sticks' aspects of play war, but the whole siege engineering thing, that seems so much more engaging. I spent a fair amount of the dream time trying to work out with a fellow who seemed to be the marshal whether simulated Greek fire would be legal in the battle. Good times.

Speaking of good times, [livejournal.com profile] wildnsquirrelly expressed some concern the other day about me, on the grounds that he didn't think I enjoyed anything or got excited about anything anymore. Now, I understand I've been a little stressed of late, but I didn't think I was stressed enough to not be any fun. If that's been true, I apologize.

Also, very soon, Bad Santa Flaunt 3 (Santa's Day Off). Drop me a note if you want to get in on the plans.
EDIT: Actually, if you want to get in on the plans, there will be a thread on [livejournal.com profile] flaunt_dev for that very purpose, and I invite you to come on over. Because that's like, what [livejournal.com profile] flaunt_dev is for.

Presented for your edification, today's Google How-To was "How To Appreciate Death Metal". I love these. The last few have covered a range of topics from "How to Make Bottle Cap Earrings" to "How to Stop a Car With No Brakes" to "How to Calculate Center of Gravity". I've been taking them as an omen about skills I might need in the day ahead (which did make the one about how to stop a car with no brakes a little alarming, but hey).

Also, Earth Calendar, a compilation of holidays sorted by date, country, religion, and so on. Brilliantly helpful. In 2007, I know when Easter will be. This marks the first year every in my life that I have known ahead of time when Easter was. Ever.

They say joy shared is joy doubled, and pain shared is pain halved. I'm going to share this with you, and you can decide which of the two categories it belongs in.

Worst conversation of the day, from the journal of [livejournal.com profile] ursulav. The original post is about how she's been reading a lot of fanfiction, and now has the urge to write some. The post details reasons why she thinks this is a Bad Idea. The comments thread is generally full of encouragement to write the fanfic, and includes this little gem (I'm paraphrasing, because I can't be arsed to look it up again to link):

First Commenter: If you're going to write fanfiction, write it for classic stories. That way it's almost respectable.
Second Commenter: Yeah, when you write a Sherlock Holmes story these days, they don't call it fanfiction, they call it a pastiche.
Third Commenter: Uh, not if Holmes and Watson end up doin' it. I'm just saying.

You know, I don't usually have a terribly visual imagination, and I'm utter shite with faces as a rule, but for some reason, I can now clearly see Basil Rathbone in a series of complicated positions... It's no good, I tell you. No good at all.
