Last night, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants's dad and his girlfriend took the three of us out to dinner (which is never bad), in order to discuss how he might further take us on a trip to Jamaica over the winter holidays (which isn't rough either).

So after dinner, we're explaining some things about Gaia Community to the girlfriend (I have no clever alias for her yet; [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants' dad, however, is clearly Bilbo Baggins). We're talking about the growth of the church, and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid says something like, "We're coming along well, it's a good community. We've had a number of marriages among members." And then, he starts to enumerate the marriages. "Well, there's the three of us, then B. and J., then, well, can we count [livejournal.com profile] capriciouslass and [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris? Because they met somewhere else, right?"

So while [Bad username or site: kittenpants and I are trying to tell him that <lj user=capriciouslass @ livejournal.com] and [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris did, indeed, meet at Gaia, the girlfriend has just caught "the three of us". So she goes, "The three of you are married?" [livejournal.com profile] triadruid says, "Not officially, that would be illegal." I put in something like, "We haven't had a ceremony or anything." Here is the part where it could go ugly.

But it doesn't. She says, "Why didn't anybody tell me?" We say we thought Bilbo told her. Bilbo says, "Told her what?" We say to him, "Well, you knew, right?" He says, "Knew what?" Finally, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants says, "That we're all in a relationship together." He says, "Oh, yeah, well, I kind of assumed."

The girlfriend is on top of things now, though. She says, "Is it patriarchal?" We assure her it's more like democratic, because when there are three of you, you can vote. She takes that in, then turns to Bilbo and says, "We could have two men." He shrugs and says, "Maybe." And the conversation goes back to passports as though nothing has happened.
