For a minute there, it looked like E3 was going to Florida over the July 4 weekend to see my family and partake of amusement parks and cuban food.

However comma. When I tried to actually buy the plane tickets last night, during the thirty seconds it took me to move from the "looking at plane tickets" phase to the "buying plane tickets" phase, the flights I wanted went up $100 a ticket, placing them firmly out of budget. It looked, though, as if we could still go at the price we could afford, if we were willing to take an extra day off work and go Friday morning instead of Friday evening. So we duly dispatched ourselves (and by ourselves, I mean me and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid) to grovel before our corporate masters (not that we technically have corporate masters, I mean, he works for the government and I work for a social service nonprofit, but that doesn't sound as good) and ask for another day off.

Now, however, even the morning flights are out of my range. The only way to make it work now is if we fly out of a different city than we flew in to, and leave to come home at a ridiculous hour of the morning. I suppose we could still do that... *shrug*

In the meantime, though, I am taking suggestions as to what else we might do with our July 4 weekend, since we already have Monday the 3rd off, and damned well ought to go somewhere and do something.

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] triadruid agreed to the plan of getting up at stupid ayem to fly home. We have also agreed to pretend that we have Friday off as well, and work towards actually getting the day off. So we're still going, but I still want suggestions for alternatives, just for the fun of it.

In other news, I walked 9/10ths of a mile today at lunch. I understand that this is not much compared to the sort of walking a lot of the folks on my flist are doing, but when you are a large fat sedentary slug such as myself, 9/10ths of a mile is nothing to sneeze at. It's a hell of a lot farther than I normally walk in a day, anyway. We'll just ignore the part where the reason I walked all that was to pick up fish and chips, won't we?
