Adventures!

Saturday morning, I found myself lying on the couch at TCP. This was not an unfathomable state, as I had fallen asleep on that very couch the night before, but my inability to raise myself off the couch was coming pretty close to unfathomable. The smaller Princesses were mucking about, playing with magnets and things that made a lot of loud singing sounds, and generally refusing to eat their oatmeal. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid was patiently explaining to me why I needed to get up.

"We've got to clean the house, and do the dishes, and wash the laundry, and..."

"That doesn't sound very exciting," I mumbled blearily. "We should do something exciting. I crave adventure."

At this point, he just sort of looked at me funny. But lo, we did later go forth and have adventures, so that was all right. We had lunch with ES at the Happy Dragon Chinese Buffet, where we developed a theory of Chinese restaraunt naming conventions. (You get a hat. You write down these words on cards: Happy, Lucky, Fortune, Golden, Red, Dragon, Panda, Star, Spring, Princess, Empress, Bamboo, Express, One. You draw two or three words out of the hat. You are done.) We went to the library, where I got a pile of books bigger than my head (including some of the previously discussed recommendations), and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid got a graphic novel. (He doesn't have as much time to read as I do, and also he's pickier. This is a usual library excursion for us.) We went home and watched some Firefly. I think we're done with the first two discs now.

Sunday, we headed out to Lawrence to visit [livejournal.com profile] adammaker. Along the way, we got fabulous lunch at the Free State Brewery, which we voted Best Place to Hide Out In Case Of Ravenous Lion-Goddess Attack, on account of the ready availability of barleywine. (And also because they've got an excellent chile con queso, which would be good to eat while waiting for the Lion-Goddess to be lured down Mass. to said barleywine.) We then headed over to the Church of Math and Science, where we met [livejournal.com profile] adammaker and esteemed roommate [livejournal.com profile] jackjob. We hung out with them for a bit, ate more yummy food, bought spices at the Merc, had awful conversations, and generally enjoyed ourselves. Happy times were had by all, and also, we watched Steamboy, which had been in my mental to-view queue for quite some time. As often happens with movies, I thought it was great, and [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid thought it made no damned sense. Which was technically true, but hey. [livejournal.com profile] adammaker and I enjoyed it, so now I know who to hook up with for awful movies with lots of gears and rivets (yay!).

As I mentioned, yesterday was a metric goatload of fun. But, as sometimes occurs, there was a dark spot in the day, when [livejournal.com profile] adammaker said something like, "I almost never say, 'Wow, I don't want to learn how to do that'". And then, there was a chorus of assent from my other two-thirds, and I had to look at everybody and say, "Well, I do. I say that all the time." There are a lot of things I don't want to learn how to do, or at least don't want to learn how to do in that exact moment.

I think this is because I am fundamentally lazy. And, because of that, I find that I can't do nearly so many nifty things as most of my friends can, to say nothing of the lovely people who are my partners. And that's sort of depressing, and I generally wander around feeling inferior to people. So bleh.

So I was thinking I'd do two things here. One is to find some new things that I do want to learn how to do, and start learning how to do them. The other is to list out the skills I already have, so I can have some actual data to bitch and moan about, instead of just anecdotally bitching and moaning. There will eventually be a link to that list in this entry (I'm going to post it publicly, but backdated, so that if you're interested, you can see, but so that my neuroses will not clog up your friendslist if you aren't interested).

EDIT: It's here, if you care.
