Adventures!
Jan. 9th, 2006 09:18 amSaturday morning, I found myself lying on the couch at TCP. This was not an unfathomable state, as I had fallen asleep on that very couch the night before, but my inability to raise myself off the couch was coming pretty close to unfathomable. The smaller Princesses were mucking about, playing with magnets and things that made a lot of loud singing sounds, and generally refusing to eat their oatmeal.
triadruid was patiently explaining to me why I needed to get up.
"We've got to clean the house, and do the dishes, and wash the laundry, and..."
"That doesn't sound very exciting," I mumbled blearily. "We should do something exciting. I crave adventure."
At this point, he just sort of looked at me funny. But lo, we did later go forth and have adventures, so that was all right. We had lunch with ES at the Happy Dragon Chinese Buffet, where we developed a theory of Chinese restaraunt naming conventions. (You get a hat. You write down these words on cards: Happy, Lucky, Fortune, Golden, Red, Dragon, Panda, Star, Spring, Princess, Empress, Bamboo, Express, One. You draw two or three words out of the hat. You are done.) We went to the library, where I got a pile of books bigger than my head (including some of the previously discussed recommendations), and
triadruid got a graphic novel. (He doesn't have as much time to read as I do, and also he's pickier. This is a usual library excursion for us.) We went home and watched some Firefly. I think we're done with the first two discs now.
Sunday, we headed out to Lawrence to visit
adammaker. Along the way, we got fabulous lunch at the Free State Brewery, which we voted Best Place to Hide Out In Case Of Ravenous Lion-Goddess Attack, on account of the ready availability of barleywine. (And also because they've got an excellent chile con queso, which would be good to eat while waiting for the Lion-Goddess to be lured down Mass. to said barleywine.) We then headed over to the Church of Math and Science, where we met
adammaker and esteemed roommate
jackjob. We hung out with them for a bit, ate more yummy food, bought spices at the Merc, had awful conversations, and generally enjoyed ourselves. Happy times were had by all, and also, we watched Steamboy, which had been in my mental to-view queue for quite some time. As often happens with movies, I thought it was great, and
kittenpants and
triadruid thought it made no damned sense. Which was technically true, but hey.
adammaker and I enjoyed it, so now I know who to hook up with for awful movies with lots of gears and rivets (yay!).
