featherynscale: Schmendrick the magician from The Last Unicorn (perfect)
Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] chaosdruid and [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris, who tied the proverbial knot this weekend.

Thank you also to them for pulling off the act in such a gracious, classy way.

You might not think that you could apply the terms 'gracious' and 'classy' to an event that included extreme lawn darts, mass sarong-wearing, and an epic-level watergun fight. But only if you hadn't been to the wedding. The principals invested a lot of their energy in making sure that their guests were comfortable and having a good time, which is something that one seldom sees in the world of weddings. And consequently, I had a fabulous time.

It is worth noting that of all of the denizens of EHQ, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid is arguably the most patriotic. This is to say that he a)works for the government and b)owns a t-shirt which says "America" on it, which he wears on Flag Day, Independence Day, and other related holidays. The household in general acknowledges that there are distinct advantages to living in the States over living in a number of other countries, but still is of the opinion that there are also a number of ways in which inhabitants of other realms have it over us, especially since our "us" tends to fall on the left side of the aisle with regards to things like, oh, whether or not women and homosexual people are actually people, that sort of thing.

Lack of particular patriotism on the parts of the other 2/3rds of the house notwithstanding, we did do our patriotic duty last night by blowing the shit out of some Chinese-manufactured fireworks, which apparently symbolizes our ideological victory as capitalists over the godless commies, or something (the color of the chocolate reminds us of the color of the wood of the cross...) Of course, being of a fairly commie bent ourselves (though never godless), we are open to other possible interpretations. We also felt exceedingly patriotic about the event because we spent a fair portion of our festivities being on the lookout for cop cars. Nothing makes you grateful for your freedom like looking out for the cops.

It is also worth noting that at one point during the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants was observed to sing "She's a Grand Old Flag". Assertions that the aforementioned "flag" actually referred not to Old Glory but to the concept of a man in a sarong with an erection (a different sort of glory, really) will surely be dismissed as the baseless rumors they must be.
