I'm fresh out of George R.R. Martin books, which is bad. There's one more out in the Song of Fire and Ice, but it's apparently only out in hardcover. The paperback doesn't hit until September. So I was prepared to swallow good fiscal sense in the name of reading the new one while I still remember who all the characters are, and go shell out the $23 or whatever for the hardcover. But [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, in his budget-consciousness, reminded me that I have a library card (to the KC MO library, where I have not yet run out of grace, not to the JOCO library, where I am persona non grata).

So off to the library I go, and lo! The gods smile upon me for this decision - as I'm looking for my library card in my purse, I find $10 stuffed down in a pocket that I didn't know I had. So I considered myself to be rewarded for good behavior.

Alas, the joy of finding the extra bit of cash was lessened somewhat by the realization that the library doesn't have the book I want. Oh well. I did manage to find where I left off in the Dune prequels, and get the next two of those, as well as picking up Progressive Witchcraft, which [livejournal.com profile] synesis trashed so eloquently. So I'm looking forward to that.

Also, it may be of interest to other KCMO library users that if you have the orange and yellow card, you will need to turn it in next time you visit the library and get a new one (I was told that having the older card number format was why I wasn't able to log in to the catalog system online).
