The world has moved on, apparently
Jan. 26th, 2004 03:24 pmI'm trying to plan our trip to New Orleans today - in the process, I have discovered how long it's been since I was there last, and how many things that I was familiar with are now gone. Of note, the hotel I was wanting to stay at has been taken over by another company - it's still a hotel, but it's now a "boutique" hotel, which apparently mandates $300 a night rates. No thanks.
Somewhat more depressingly, Lucky Chang's also appears to have gone to the great restaraunt district in the sky. Dammit. No more will there be fantastic Asian/fusion food with copious amounts of ginger served by transvestite waitresses. No more will there be giant frozen drinks of uncertain composition and unnatural colors named after said waitresses. Not that you don't get giant frozen drinks of uncertain composition, good food, and transvestites in other establishments in the city, but still. Sigh.
The world has moved on, and I'm going to be no sort of a guide if half the things I remember are no longer there.
