Some things just don't occur to me.
Sep. 18th, 2003 09:13 amI've known that I was culturally ignorant for some time, and decided that overall, that may not be bad, since a lot of the culture I'm ignorant of seems to include things like boy bands and sitcoms. And being on LJ and reading other people's journals is certainly enlightening me as to the extent of my cultural ignorance.
For example, yesterday I discovered slash-fiction. While I see the point of this (sort-of), it would never have occurred to me that there would be *so many* people who have this as a hobby. So I pointed this out to Werebear, and a conversation very like this ensues:
WB: Heh. You should see the art - want a picture of Scar having sex with the hyenas?
Me: What?!
WB: It's funny.
Me: You think about this when you're watching cartoons? I mean, anime, I could see, but Disney?
**boggles**
So yeah, culturally ignorant. On the upside though, I think this means that I'm not nearly as much of a fanboy as I sometimes fear I am.
