Hence, things I learned today:

1. There really are people called 'Eve' and 'Lolita'. I talked to one of each today.

2. English Springer Spaniel owners are schism-happy. For whatever reason, there is one national AKC member club for most other breeds, but English Springer Spaniel owners have chosen to hive off and make five or six top-level clubs. I like to think that this is because they've had irreconcilable differences over things like length of coat or acceptable eye colors, and are even now at the brink of doggie jihad. It's probably not true, but I'm running really short on entertainment today.

Believe it. We had a kennel when I was growing up, and we did the dog show circuit. Very political, these people. In fact, the schism was probably less about breed qualities and more about somebody's champion material being passed over or marked down in a show. Either way, it was a piss fight; you can count on that.
